FYI, like virtually [i]all[/i] politicians (and television personalities), Palin [i]also[/i] reads a teleprompter when giving a speech. This is customary.

The cribbed notes on the hand were for the after-speech Q & A session, which is not typically scripted for a candidate, although they sometimes use notecards if they are speaking at a lectern. This is where a politician can't fake being prepared.

If you want to promote the demonstrably false talking point that Obama is not a strong speaker and can't live without a teleprompter, first look at any number of Q & A sessions that the president has given while in office. Obviously this talking point is posited solely to piss off the president's supporters, because you would have to be mentally impaired to actually believe it.

So here's a press conference session from [i]yesterday[/i]:

Although Obama fielded questions from the opposition party at their own venue, it was the GOP who came away completely schooled by the president, who knows his facts far better than his challengers.

I'm just not mentally impaired to have ever actually believed a politician. I've never felt compelled to jump in and defend one any time the slightest criticism falls their way. I just thought it was funny someone was actually surprised to see this and pointed out what you elaborated on in depth. I stated a simple fact.

When one is unencumbered by trivial things like having an actual life, one can afford to spend hours upon hours googling retarded shit to defend semi-literate politicians. It's kind of sad really.

[/quote]Maybe we're talking past each other here. I never faulted anyone for believing a politician, I said that anyone who believes that Obama can't speak without a teleprompter either doesn't know what he/she is talking about (i.e., is an idiot) or is being disingenuous.

I doubt you'll ever catch me defending that waste of space's skills at anything.

Despite the disparate public speaking skills, they both manage to be incredibly awkward in front of the camera. Sarah Palin reminds of some chick who lost out on the audition for Mary Anne from Gilligan's Island and has just decided to keep on auditioning and Obama always comes off like Spock when he tried to join in with Kirk and McCoy on "Row Row Row Your Boat" in Star Trek V.

Well, it's obviously subjective, but I don't think Palin's speaking skills compare favorably next to Obama's. And if you're talking about direct, unassisted speech, conversation or ad-libbing (as we are in this topic), it's clear that Obama is very well informed, reasoned (even if you disagree) and articulate. I don't think there's a case to be made for Sarah Palin.
