Harassment Question for NWO Women

Let's say you work in a large corporation. There's a man who is in a fairly senior position, and although you sometimes work together on projects, you don't report through to him either directly or indirectly. And this man is well liked by the CEO as an up and comer.
If this man makes a sexual proposition, unprovoked or unencouraged, what do you do? Of course you say no. But do you lodge this as a harassment claim, knowing it is your word against his and the male dominated structure is likely to circle the wagons to defend him? Or what?
It is almost a no win situation for a woman...and that's really unfair.

Can you be more specific on exactly what you said when you propositioned her?

Does boom-chicka-wah-wah music play on your company's PA system?

Seriously though. It is completely unfair. Women do have to deal with it all the time.
Something I've never told anyone.....
This happened when I was in high school and working part time at a grocery store. I was straightening up some shelves or something. On my knees doing it anyway, when the manager came up. I looked up at him, and he said, "You look really good down there looking up at me". I was probably about 17. That was the first time he made a comment like that. He'd say things like that whenever there was no one around after that. Which wasn't very often. I always made sure I wasn't alone with him. This manager was the son of the District Manager. What do you do? He was well liked and respected by everyone. To me he was just a total dirt-bag. He was transferred just about the time I had finally built up enough courage to say something. Looking back, I probably still should have done something, but, I was so glad he was gone I didn't.
So this is nothing new. I'm sure I'm not the only one that something like that ever happened to at that age.
At this age, I'd probably take him up on his proposition, tie him up with his pants around his ankles and let someone find him in the morning. Maybe stick a bat up his ass or something. [}:)]

Pretty shitty 82. Makes you wonder how thin the sheen of society really is.

It is unfair and unfortunately, there is not much you can do unless someone else heard the comments.
I had a problem with the president of the credit union where I worked. He would constantly say inappropriate things to me. What could I do? He was the president of the company, a family man and a Vietnam Vet to boot.

About five years ago, a guy I worked with was fired after he made a remark to me. Specifically, he grabbed the hand lotion off my desk and told me that when he masturbated, hand lotion worked ok, but hair conditioner was better.
At the time, I was in the office alone at night pretty often. He already skeeved me out to begin with (I'm convinced that women's intuition is real); that he had the balls to say that to me (I was actually his supervisor) made me really think he was unhinged. I complained to my supervisor; he was gone a few days later. After he was gone, his sister-in-law told me he'd been accused of raping a girl. Creepy.
I think the worst part of the whole thing was having to sit in a conference room with the people above me and tell them over and over again where the conversation took place, what I was doing at the time, what was said. I felt like I was on trial--like I had to prove I hadn't done something wrong.
I think it's a tough call. Had I worked for a big company where I felt my job was in danger, I probably would have kept my mouth shut. It is a no-win situation. You either put up with crap like this, or you complain and risk, at the very least, guaranteeing that you'll never move up the food chain.

Well thanks birdmadgirl, marie3 and wwui82 for some non-sarcastic responses...geez, what was I thinking posting this here!?! [:(!]
This happened to a friend of mine recently and she was asking for my advice on what to do, since my company has pretty much the same crappy corporate culture as where she works. I can definitely imagine my CEO protecting the blue-eyed-boy at all costs.
I've never really thought about it before, and it makes me quite angry because any way I process it, she can't "win". These situations are extremely unfair to the harassed. It's usually a "he said" / "she said" with no tangible evidence unless the jerk confesses.
My friend is a professional, married with a kid, making 6 figures a year and the prick actually told her he wanted to bang her on his desk!!! WTF !!!

Whatever happened to the good old days when the husband, boyfriend, friend or relative of the victim would simply wait in the parking lot and beat the everlovin' piss out of the disrespectful douchebag? Want to know why this kind of shit happens? It's because we've turned into a society of pussies. I "handled" a situation like this myself a couple of years back for my then girlfriend. Believe me, the offender will never try anything similar with her or any other girl. And before anyone (Sally) says "violence never solved anything" ... bullshit. It works. Anyone who thinks otherwise obviously just can't punch hard enough.

I was reminded of that scene in Goodfellas when the guy smashes the neighbor's face with the side of a small revolver. Damn. She should just carry a letter opener on hand in case he tries to get his meat hooks on her[}:)]

I don't understand why this shit isn't stopped dead on the spot as it happens. Make a lot of noise and file a formal complaint with h.r. I haven't seen any sexual harrassment situations where I work at, but there's a girl who tells some guys to back off because they're in her personal space (i.e., "would you mind stepping back a bit? You're making me feel uncomfortable"). When she told me, I laughed a bit, but I told her I agree there are creeps out there that girls have to be curt with. Later on, she had to transfer out because her supervisor would usually ask her personal questions about dating, boyfriends, etc., unprompted (the supervisor seemed cool to me, but I'm not the one being asked all that personal shit). However, I could easily get sacked for saying all kinds of inappropriate comments if rules were followed strictly. Example: at a general staff meeting/luncheon, I playfully told a girl, "Wow! You look hot!" 'cause of the way she did her hair. Holy crap, that was retarded. Hahaha. It dawned on me a fraction of a second later I wasn't using my "inside voice" and it might be taken the wrong way by everyone else... but they laughed it off, including the girl. She turned out to be one of the coolest, laid back, and friendliest persons with me there[}:)]
