Just casting a wide net here.....
Gearing up for my wife and I's 20th anniversary early next year and am looking to go someplace special to celebrate. I know many of you on the Outpost do a lot of travelling so wondering what your favorite caribbean resort/island is? We'd ideally like someplace relatively small but nice and of course on the beach if possible.
All thoughts appreciated.

If you like small, quiet, and like snorkeling I have heard many good things about St. John, USVI. Everyone I've talked to that has been there raves about the unspoiled beauty.
If you can handle a larger resort my most relaxing vacation ever was at a Sandal's all-inclusive in Jamaica. (Well, it became relaxing after the 70 mph bus ride through towns with children & goats in the middle of the road, beeping the horn, never slowing down.) You check in, put your wallet in the room safe, and get it out when you're ready to leave. All-inclusive means all-inclusive. There's sailing, snorkeling, etc. if your type A. A swim-up pool bar if you're type B. The only negative was we didn't stay on the ocean side of the building & heard carts wheeling in laundry every morning.

That's the thing about the Caribbean - I always feel like I'm in an enclave within a third-world country. Why I much prefer one of the non-Oahu Hawaiian islands. St Johns might get closest to that though, especially the Westin. Of course you could go really large and do the Four Seasons Nevis.

If that the Sandal's in Negril, we stayed there about 12 years ago for a week. It was a lot of fun, but, at least then, it was pretty crowded.
We've also been to Bermuda and Puerto Rico and were plus/minus on the latter destination.
Frau, we were lucky enough to stay at the Kauai Hilton several years ago and your right it was heaven.
We're think of the caribbean only to reduce the number of hours in air (flying out of the Southeast) and lag.
Please keep the replies coming.

I usually rent a beach house in Abaco once or twice a year.

Been going there since the 80's. It's the Bahamas, not the Caribbean, but it's quiet & secluded, beautiful with amazing diving and fishing. 45 minutes east of Miami or West Palm Beach Florida.

On places I've been...
St Martin--on the dirty side-would not go back
Puerto Rico--I really remember traffic sucking--stayed at Conquistador--nice resort.
St. Barts--very nice/very pricey
Dominican--hot spot for travel lately--not bad if you avoid all the rude Europeans--think they own it....
Go to the Grand Oasis in Cancun--great place!!
