I don't see why you would. It's an alternate OS.

ok- thanks

now riddle me this- my download speeds have been crap for years- youtube is like molasses

hence

"malleshapp: Thank you for contacting Earthlink Live Chat Support.

malleshapp: This is A...

malleshapp: How may i help you today?

schwenko: my download speed is deplorable- I can't even watch a simple youtube video

malleshapp: Okay let me check on i.

malleshapp: it.

schwenko: ok

malleshapp: Okay well I had a check and you are not getting the complete speed what you are suppose to get.

schwenko: and?

malleshapp: Could you please tell me if the modem is connected directly to the Wall Jack with out any splitter or filter in between?

schwenko: yes

malleshapp: So do you have a splitter or filter connected?

schwenko: no

malleshapp: Okay.

malleshapp: And how many Wall Jacks do you have for this phone number?

schwenko: i don't know- maybe 6

malleshapp: Okay so apart form this you have all other 5 wall jacks for the phones correct?

schwenko: yes- there is something between my phone and the jack, but my modem is pluggede directloy into the jack

malleshapp: Okay so you have filters connected on all the Wall Jack's correct?

schwenko: no
just the phone

malleshapp: so don't you have a filter on all the Wall jacks where the phones are connected?

schwenko: no- just the wall jack that the phone is connected to has a filter (if that is what it is)

malleshapp: Okay.

malleshapp: Okay so you just have filter on only one Wall Jack correct?

schwenko: correct

malleshapp: Is that a cordless phone or is it a regular phone which is attatched to the wall jack?

schwenko: regular phone

malleshapp: Okay why I am asking you is because its very mandatory to have a filter on all the wall jack where we connect a phone so that the line will be stable and you will be getting complete speed.

Its the problem with the connection here.

You have to put filter on all the Wall and check for the speed if not you could also try this.

malleshapp: Could you please unplug all the phones from the wall jacks and lets have only the modem connected to the wall jack.

schwenko: no

malleshapp: Okay then you please try this okay.

malleshapp: Buy filters and install it it on all the phone jacks where the phone are connected.

schwenko: there is a filter on the one phone already

malleshapp: Not on one phone it has to be put on all the wall jack where you connect your phone.

schwenko: tell me the exact filter you are referring to

malleshapp: Its called as DSL filter or Z blocker.

malleshapp: The importance of this filter is it blocks the DSL signals and there wont be static on you phone line and the connection will be stable."

So is this credible?

Yes. I had the same problem. Every jack but one had a filtre and that one jack messed up the connection. Once that jack had a filtre attached, everything was fine.

It's credible, but they should provide the filters. Tell them to do so.

Yeah, but make sure you're not getting old filters. They'd probably have all that built-up staticfuzz in there.
