Is Franz Ferdinand already a "classic" band??

There's a musical channel that I like very much that once a week dedicates an hour special (with videos and the history) of classic artists among rock music such as R.E.M., Nirvana, Blondie, etc...
Once in a while they dedicate specials to more modern bands that can be considered as classics such as Supergrass or Suede.
Great surprise I had this week when I saw that their special was devoted to Franz Ferdinand. That made think... can we consider Franz Fredinand as a classic band?? Ok, they had several hits but only two albums and they haven't got 5 years of career yet.
Does a band become a classic when it influences other bands??? Cause Franz Ferdinand does.
Opinions????

In the same topic: Are The Strokes and The White Stripes already classic bands?? They've been around for some years and have started a new musical trend.

More like "Flash In The Pan"!

Their first record was fresh and interesting. Then, as it does with many new bands, the sophomore slump set in.

Their next record, if there is one, will give a clue to whether they have any hope of longevity or are doomed to obscurity.

I don't think they have established enough of a track record to claim to have much of an impact or influence. So far they have been long on style and short on substance.

From that perspective they may be much like some classic New Wave bands of the past.

They certainly have a great impact on contemporary groups and artists, but we must give them some time to prove themselves as real classic artist.A classic name is already there!!!

They have the potential for greatness but they need a really good "next" album to be considered in this vein. I have seen them live and was really impressed by them. Totally blew Scissor sisters off the stage!

Um, Mechi, guess I need to spell it out for you. I was not insulting you or implying that you believed what the TV said, particularly when it was quite clear from your original post that you were attributing that POV to the TV show.

My response was an ironic statement. I, as many people on this site know, am a big fan of Franz Ferdinand. The irony is that even "I" don't think that they are yet a classic band. In other words, although I was responding to your post, my post was not about YOU.

I watched them yesterday and they blew Novi Sad away, a great performance at the Exit festival. I only missed the song "You're the reason I'm leaving", but all other great tracks were played. Even The Cardigans and The Cult did a great job. Sadly I missed Peter Hook's set at the other stage.

I know and I was joking about it too... you also misunderstood my post!!!
I do like FF a lot... saw them live this March and almost flipped out when I saw Alex Kapranos.[:D]
