"Is This It?" NME's Top Album of the 00s

Since when are The Strokes not vanilla flavored, wannabe, edgy rock stars using Daddy's money to buy their guitars and pretending they are some downtrodden garage band that made it big?

I actually like their stuff but I also like other NME Top 10s like Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Arctic Monkeys. I must have lost MY edge.

NME must be losing their touch. I thought it would be a little more adventuresome. Some glaring omissions though: no Fleet Foxes (but we get Bon Iver and Bright Eyes??), no BSP, not even The Decline Of. 2 Muse and 2 MIA??? I'll give them The National, QOTSA, Arcade Fire,Avalanches, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and of course, the Strokes. And sorry, My Morning Jacket's Z should be higher in the rankings as far as I am concerned.

In the context of music in the year 2000, The Strokes were a great turn back to more-elemental indie rock. It's total revisionism to go back 10 years on and say they weren't. Yeah, they didn't do much after this album and in the context of a flood of boring white boy indie bands, they didn't fulfill any additional promise, but Is This It was an important album IMHO.

I don't know, I thought the two singles from 2003's 'Room On Fire' were great (Reptilia and 12:51)!

I scrolled tru thu #50. It seemed the overwhelming majority of albums were from the first half of the decade. I guess the voters didn't think there was much worthwhile from the past 5 years or so.

The Libertines are okay but I always thought they were a bit overrated. Very nice format they used with the videos. I love the PJ Harvey song they posted, hadn't heard that one before.

I agree with 3 on this list (Where the hell is Lil'Wayne?????? Have they not heard of Panic at the Disco! (Not as good after they lost the !)

I liked those singles a lot but nothing really new that I'd feel compelled to put as an additional album on a list like this. And yes, Libertines good but overrated. I won't even get into the BSP thing...fucking cretins!!!!!
