I disagree. I really tried to like These New Puritans (like their first album), but it is crap. I seriously doubt that there's anyone on that staff who actually enjoys sitting down to listen to this pretentious droning. And wow, Arcade Fire and Beach House...don't hurt yourself with that huge stretch. Cunts.

Anyone have opinions on the Foals? I've heard a couple of good tracks. Don't know much more about them. Are they worth checking out?

Liked the last Foals. Might lkme this one even more - a few more melodic songs. It might however rate lower in my year-end list just because I'm just not into their thing anymore. I realize this might not make much sense.

I'm opposite of Frau, I didn't care for The Foals first release, but like the more melodic tunes on the new one. I've tried to get into Salem, but they seem to moan and drone just for the sake of it. In the same vein Zola Jesus seems to have that "it" factor when it comes to dark moody music. Does anybody on this board like Yeasayer? I can't get into them at all.

Speaking of droning, I find Paul Weller (#46) hard to listen to anymore. Hate to say that cause I really want to like his new stuff. A crooner and a folkie troubadour he aint. Voice is grating when he's not singing rock.

In the top 10 alone, I don't think I've ever heard of These New Puritans, Laura Marling, Salem or Liars or if I did they didn't make much of an impact. Guess I'm out of the loop on a lot of this list!

You may not be that opposite. I have an inkling that if Total Life Forever came out in 2008 and Antidotes came out today, I'd have liked the Total Life more than Antidotes - I was just more in the mood for them then. I'm just kinda over what Foals do, at least right now. And I'm so with you on Yeasayer. I don't get it AT ALL, and I've tried.

I could have written this list without even hearing these bands.
1. write down every hipster band you can think of (you may use Rolling Stone or Spin Magazines Bands To Watch articles for reference)
2. Sprinkle in a couple older acts because you liked them way before anyone else
3. throw in a handful of rap CD's because, hey, we're keeping it real yo!

Lets face it, half these bands make music that England Dan and John Ford Coley would make fun of for being wussies.
