New Wave Outpost Forum

Hi,

I work at a college radio station, it's great fun. Anyways...there have been a lot of new bands out (aside from the Arctic Monkeys) that sound sort of New Wave/Post Punk, just thought I'd share.

Maxïmo Park- They're in the same vein as the Arctic Monkeys, a bit rockish.

Polystar- It's sort of like Depeche Mode, they've got a few good songs.

The Glowstars- They're sort of like The Cure or early Smiths...good stuff.

The Birthday Massacre- They've been around since 2000 or so, I started listening to them in early '02...great band, they're doing a tour now.

Heard some from Birthday Massacre, loved "Video Kid". Pretty cool stuff. I'll keep my ears open for the others.

BTW: Welcome aboard! I used to DJ when I was in college (waaaay back in the early 90's) so it'll be cool to trade some stories.

I'm at WITR in Henrietta (Rochester Institute of Technology), it's a pretty crazy station.

I didn't DJ at a college station, but DJ'ed at a "EZ-Listening" station while attending Purdue U. (Hey, it paid the bills. I hated the playlists I was stuck with)

That's no fun, but at least you get paid. We don't get paid, but we get to make up our own playlist as long as it follows the rules, 50-70% New, FCC Friendly and the like.

In hindsight, no paycheck was worth having to listen to the drek I was stuck with playing. Anne Murray? Gordon Lightfoot? Air Supply? My brain has been permanently scarred from their crappy crap. Consider yourself damn lucky, Michelle. At least you get to play SOME good music, not drek like I had to.

BTW: Do you ever use 'Totally Radd!!' in your playlists? If not, you should. Great stuff.

haven't heard them, I'll have to check them out!

The Birthday Massacre and Maximo Park are both excellent bands. I play them on my station pretty much constantly.

I ran promotion for them all throughout highschool...they saved me from listening to nu-metal, all in all, they had a few good songs! [:)]
