The Aeroplanes...sound like???

Postby Frau_Blucher » Mon Jan 01, 2007 4:08 am

Who do they sound like? Somebody. Something. Or maybe it's "what" do they sound like. Maybe just something more traditional. An Alt-rock that isn't grunge or metal or rap tinged, but instead more roots rock with an indie inflection? Here's a track I like that they've made freely available on a few places on the 'net, so I won't be too bashful to repost here...

I think it's pretty good. Anybody else noticing this rootsie indie-rock vein quietly running through music ? I'm thinking of Gomez, The Zutons, the 22-20s, and the like. Maybe it's always been there, just in smaller doses than the fashion du jour. Maybe it's just Dinosaur Jr or Archers of Loaf etc all over again. Whatever it is, it feels good...elemental and real. They make for great concerts too, that much I'm certain of. Opins?

Sounds like a bit like Arctic Monkeys mixed with The Vines doing what could be a Lenny Krapitz song.

How's your head... did the chocolate milk help?

Not a bad song, right off the bat I think of a mellower Snow Patrol or something off Nada Surfs latest. When I think of rootsie I think more in terms of The Black Keys or the Cold War Kids.

Heh, Craig, that sounded uncomfortably accurate. I suppose there might be some of all that, but I think there's more to this trend too (or my perceived trend). I'm kinda liking it, especially as a change-up to more electronic or poppy tunes.

As for the Kravitz thing...I have to admit a liking for this brief brilliant window in his career that was the Mama Said album. Really psychedelic and soulful I thought. I can't listen to much else anymore, but I still dig stuff like "The Difference Is Why", "Stop Draggin' Around", "Always on the Run", etc.

Is "Aeroplane" the same band as "The Aeroplanes"?

Yes...in an alternate and flamboyantly gay universe.
