I've picked up some interesting new tunes this week. I haven't digested them enough to have strong opinions yet, but I'm glad to see new music getting interesting again:
"Let Me Introduce My Friends" by I'm From Barcelona. Polyphonic Spree does Bubble Gum Pop (there are 29 people in this band). Pretty good music but it's polarizing - you'll hate it or you'll like it a lot; subject varies from tree houses to chicken pox to god knows what.
"Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge" by The Pierces. Just getting into this one. Blender gave it 4 stars. The Pierces are two hot, and I mean hot, sisters with pretty good vocals.
"Grinderman" by Grinderman. The album will show up in the mail later this week. Haven't heard it yet, but the singles "Get in On" and "No Pussy Blues" are phenomenal. Grinderman is a dirty bluesy offshoot of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.
"Abattoir Blues Live" by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Latest live album from one of my faves. Mostly features tracks from their most recent, and arguably, best studio album. Deluxe version comes with 2 DVDs. This will show up in the mail along with Grinderman. But what I've heard so far is top notch.
