It's different than their first two, but I like it. While it doesn't have the theme-defining "Glory Box" or the flawless masterpiece of"Humming," my current favorite "The Rip" is rather a great tune of course you're hearing from a Kate Bush/Tori Amos fan, so take it what you will.
I've read in the other thread about disappointments after a ten year absence--I think I'm finally over the "high expectations" game, even though as recent as a few years ago I was at first disappointed with Peter Gabriel's "Up" (which I now think is a very good album). I'm actually enjoying parts that are techno/industrial at the same time. There's probably less of say a 90s dance beat and scratching sound--but it's still distinct as Portishead and still rather eclectic--I find myself wanting to hear it again.
