Streaming the first track on their MySpace now. Called "Human". A guy on depeche-mode.com referred to it as a lost Alphaville track from 1984. [:D]

Not bad. Not perfect, but catchy.

Just sampled the single which is out today.

Yawn. It's just kind of... there.

Hope the rest of the album will feature something more dynamic.

They are on SNL this weekend too

The good news: they went back to their original sound.

The bad news: they forgot to bring the hooks with them.

"Human" is unlistenable. "Spaceman" was slightly better, but that's not saying much.

I'm calling it now. Unless they get Timbaland to help save them from certain label purging (a la Nelly Furtado), this band is done-for.

" Human " is terrible, I have to change the station everytime I hear it.

Sampled the album today. The edge is gone.

Sonically, much of it straddles the line somewhere between Keane and Maroon 5. Very mainstream and boring. Lyrics sound like they believed that everything they scribbled down was inspired gold and deserved to be in a song.

Should have known when the lead single featured such dribble as [i]"are we human or are we dancer?"[/i], that there wasn't much hope for the rest of the album.

I sorta like the new album. It's a return to the more guitar-n-keyboard indie pop sound of their first album. To the point that they have lost their edge, if "edge" meant the histrionic shit of the second album, then they have lost that particular edge. I sincerely do not think they're an edge band, no matter how hard they try. I'll look elsewhere for edge. I think this is what the Killers are and should be. At least now they're not so obviously straining with all their might to be some great big edgy band. I can actually listen to this without wanting to pummel Flowers into a pulp.

I am apparently the rare breed who liked both CD's.
I haven't heard the new CD yet but the first two singles are ok, nothing great but likable. I enjoyed them live as well.
The new disc has received very good reviews from all the ones I've read. I've never understood the hatred for the band.

10. They take themselves way too seriously.
9. They're too conscious of what other people think.
8. They don't do sex and drugs and rock and roll.
7. They refuse to reveal their (conservative) political leanings in order not to ruin their cred.
6. Brandon Flowers said Sam's Town was one of the best rock albums of the last 20 years.
5. His name is Brandon Flowers!
4. He doesn't know he's not Springsteen no mater how many trumped-up pompous cliche's he throws out.
