Warning: British Sea Power Spam Below...



I've had a very difficult time trying to explain exactly why I like BSP so much. As I may have ever so [i]slightly[/i] hinted at before, they may not only be my favorite current band but possibly my favorite band of all time, inclusive of all previous new wave, post-punk, or power pop groups that I so dearly love. [:0]

But I still can't explain exactly why I feel that way. This Mojo article probably comes the closest yet to the hows, whats, and whys of that:

Lots of phrases nail what I think about them:

"Entranced by nature and mired in history..."

"Flinging together aspects of Orange Juice, Joy Division and the Pixies to construct raw, dramatic rock for bookish romantics."

"There are values driving British Sea Power that do not drive, say, Kasabian."

"At a time when '80s post-punk and atmos-rock templates are being pillaged for riffs and production tics, this remains unique music, because British Sea Power's vision is unique."

"Items of worth are proving harder and harder to find. Anyone who feels the same should rush to their banner..."

Well, let's not be completely literal. [:I]

"Through their eyes, everything is ending, fading or going away. What's left are shadows and fossils, "carbonate and myth".....This article is a great description of them. I think they are becoming one of my all time favorite bands as well. Their lyrics are so poetic & melancholy, full of meanings hidden within meanings, coupled with melodies incredibly unique and mesmerizing. Great article, thanks for sharing it.

<p align="justify">When I heard the intro to "Remember Me" I thought, "Has Peter Hook created yet another NewOrder side-project/spin-off?!" Honestly, I haven't gotten into any of the songs I've heard from them to decide to buy anything. There are better chances I'd buy a single or an album by Death Cab For Cutie or The Postal Service.
