Only By The Night- by Kings Of Leon

I've been sampling this album and I'm intrigued. Lots of different sounds and textures. "Sex On Fire" looks to be the hit.

I hesitate to download the whole thing yet. In the past, I've come to regret spur of the moment musical decisions.

So I'll keep sampling for a bit...

To me, they're strictly a live band. Just a great rock and rool outfit. Nothing next wave about them, but of course, where else would we discuss them? I haven't ever felt compelled to pick up album, but they're absolutely worth going to see live. They also seem to attract extremely hot women to their gigs.

Blir, totally agree. They are good on record but live they are incredible. A real energy on stage. One of the best live bands around, along with My Morning Jacket. Actually the new album is pretty good. They are going for a more commercial sound on this one.

"Sex On Fire" by Kings of Leon is #100 on iTunes. It ain't number one but somebody's paying attention to it.

After 3 albums which spawned a cumulative total of 0 hits, "Use Somebody" and "Sex on Fire" have finally gotten them onto the American pop charts. I'm glad we eventually figured out what the UK did 5 years ago. Maybe if they had thought to call themselves The Followill Brothers and whored themselves out to Radio Disney, we would have noticed sooner...

I don't like his voice. Funny that he sounds like the lead singer of The Zambonis (whose "Hockey Monkey" I LOVE![}:)] ).

Not sure what tempted me, but I bought the new Kings of Leon CD and they reminded me of a slightly more mathematical rendition of everything that was mediocre about early to mid-90's college rock a la Live. Their singer sounds like a cross between Live's Ed Kowalczyk and Blues Traveller's John Popper. Some decent arrangements, esp. with the drums, but other than that, overhyped nothingness.

I saw them in spring of 2009 with my wife and believe me,it was difficult not to do some serious rubber necking. They are a great live band too.
