Ladytron is a perfectly named group, as its music consists primarily of girls singing -- there's the lady -- and weird robotic synth-derived sounds -- the tron. The name comes from a song off Roxy Music's first album, which came out in 1972, and Ladytron's dance-pop art-primitivism touches on numerous musical points between then and now, including Kraftwerk, Devo, Suicide, Gary Numan, New Order, Man or Astro-man?, and their synth-trash contemporaries, Chicks on Speed, all of it delivered with the self-mocking Eurotrash glamminess pioneered by the Roxies and David Bowie. If you want guitars, you're looking in the wrong place. If you want ironic disco-pop, Ladytron is just your ticket.

Is this from a new album? When is it coming out?
IIRC "Evil" was one of only 5 songs or so that I listed as anything good coming out in the 2000s[:D]

I'm listening right now and I like what I hear! I really liked both Ladytron albums and I'm anxiously awaiting the new one.

I have it too, it should be shared now.

I really don't like it at all, though. I like Ladytron for the same reason I like Freezepop and most synthpop: simplicity. Most of the songs from Light & Magic were very simple, nothing more than a catchy synth riff and some vocoder-y goodness. Witching Hour is more lush, more like one of those pop-punk bands or MTV emo bands that tries to sound/act 80s by encorporating a synthesizer, hot pink tie and mascara. The music has more body...I don't really know how to put it. I just feel like it's too polished, it went through too much production. It's a decent album as far as the "HURRY UP, get on the 'Next Wave' bandwagon before people decide they don't like it anymore and ask for a grunge revival" crap goes.

If you've never heard Ladytron before, download Light & Magic. If you're already a fan, check it out, but don't expect anything even close to the beauty of L&M.

I love Ladytron. I have some great felix da Housecat remix's.

I dunno, I luuuve "Destroy Everything You Touch". But then I actually liked the single that The Human League put out in 2000, too.

Thanks, oneno! This song will have to grow on me a little longer. I'm more used to the stark, dark Ladytron of old.

Big thanks for the link to epitonic!!!! Since checking it out last night I have downloaded about 50 songs, mostly electronic. Nice to have another source for free, legal DLs of music that is off the boring, beaten path.
