Swans Way were part of the Swing movement and said so themselves in interviews therefore not new wave and suitable for posting there. Posting tracks by them here would be as suitable as posting tracks by Foreigner or Yes on here. Still, the yanks will post not applicable tracks under the usual theory that since it didn't happen there it makes it suitable for posting..

I agree with you, Ben. I still haven't figured out why some people get upset that there may be threads here that don't qualify (in their minds) as new wave. Who cares?
If member one is looking for an OOP song, and member two has it and can help member one, why on earth would member three give two shits?
There are a half dozen threads started each day about bands that I either never liked or never heard of. I just ignore the thread. Never once have I been inclined to criticize someone else's taste in music, or more-laughable yet, corrected which 'category' they placed the band in.

Somebody has to fill in the sizable hole left by the king of categorization; Fanciz.

I think Frank's frustration (which I share) stems from the fact he was part of Simon's site (Torchomatic) which was more tightly focused, and had music posted almost exclusively by the site's owner.

As far as posting non appropriate content here, it seems that's more prevalent here these days. More members with wide ranging musical tastes, and varied concepts of what constitutes New Wave I guess. I've found a few items of interest within these posts, but obviously off topic stuff like Foreigner etc, just smacks of laziness (or stupidity) on the part of the requester.

I didn't want to get involved with this topic but guys, it's Obscure80's Central, not ObscureNewWave Central. Some of the coolest remixes in the 80's were for non-New Wave songs. I have quite a few of them and I totally love them. Don't get me wrong, I've been a die-hard New Waver since 1979 and would defend its honor til the end but you should be a little opened-mind. Although this is not a New Wave band and may not even be a New Wave song, it's a great song and it is included in many New Wave/80's compilations. Now if someone on here requested the rare 12" single by Justin Timberlake or Usher, they are definitely on the wrong board and deservedly should be ignored. Just enjoy the music guys and don't mess with my friend Ben! [:D]

SITE: Coming from a person who doesn't seem to have a problem with Foreigner being requested here, I'll take your opinion on this with a pinch of salt mine. You seem to have forgotten why Mike had to change the direction of this paticular forum. Being an American I'm not surprised at your apathy as doing something about it smacks of hard work.

86: I agree with most of your comments concerning Simon's forum, but did post a huge chunk on there myself, the most prevelent of which were the two Music for Pleasure albums that were posted on here as well. It was being tightly focused which made it work well and having Mike concentrate this forum's direction has certainly helped perk it up at a time when it seemed it could be getting unwarranted attention.

Would love to post stuff by artists in the same general field as Swans Way such as Portsmouth Sinfonia but that would not go down well on here..

Frankly, taking into consideration when this song was released and after listening to it a few times over, I don't see how anyone can say this song doesn't fit into the "boards" style of music. Regardless if the band is classified as new wave or not. I've heard songs by (Board approved) new wave bands that sounded less new wave than "Soul Train"

As far as I'm concerned this "song" fits just fine on this board [;)]

No doubt about it, Ben.
I challenge anyone to come up with a concrete definition of 'new wave'. Regardless of what they come up with, I could find a song by some pop act like Kim Carnes or Manfred Mann that fits the description. The problem with trying to define new wave (or any musical genre) is that the boundries are so fuzzy, that many songs have certain characteristics of one type of music, while still falling under the umbrella of a few others.
I'm just going to go on enjoying the many great posts on the site, and let the other folks get all worked up because they think a band has been mentioned doesn't fit their sacred definition of new wave.

Well, I think that most of the people voicing frustration on the matter have had valid claims about some past post. I feel they are wrong in this case.

Unfortunatly it has been the workings of unnamed trolls who have put the purists on edge. There was never this kind of outcry before the trolls came, never.

I don't know whats next, people getting fried because the "80's Club Hits" banner at the top of the page leads to the likes of Michael Jackson, Kool and the Gang, Chaka Khan, and Ready for the World (RFTW. Imagine a banner like that on a "New Wave Message Board".
