I played the mp3 alongside with the record, and the record fades out at the 2:40 mark while the mp3 of course keeps going for 5:11. Since 3:47 played at 33 1/3 would be about 2:40 at 45, the extended version is around 7:40.

Still cracking up that people are listening to the mp3 and not noticing this.

The version of The Emigre on the back of the Cashflow 12" is actually titled "The Emigre 2", and judging by the grooveage on the vinyl, I'd say SomebodySomewhere is right with the timing of 7+ minutes.

Does anybody need this ripped??

Hey laughing boy, you sure you're not describing "Emigre 2" and not just "Emigre"?

That depends. Is "Emigre 2" recorded at the wrong speed? Is "Emigre 2" what the OP was requesting?

LOL. Just sped up the 7:08 version from 33 1/3 to 45 in Audacity...hmm, um, heh...sounds pretty damned identical to Emigre "1". [:o)]

Rather than this mp3 rip existing in a wrongly recorded "fast" version by different people in different places, could Leisure Process have intended both to be official releases, with the only real differences being play speed?! If so, that'd be damned hilarious.

Maybe... if you're Marlee Matlin.

My math was a little off. "The Emigre 2" (the extended version on the UK 12") runs 7:06 according to that. "The Emigre" is simply the first half of "The Emigre 2."

She's got selective defness for things slower than 45rpm???

This is freakin' me out! I swear to you that I grew up hearing this fast version on KROQ. I distinctly remember review comments about what a cool "James Bondish" sound it had. Flashback Alternatives plays it at its 5:11 length...and they're on the internet so they have to be right!

I think there's more going on here. That slow version ('right' version) isn't even interesting. I say Leisure Process slyly created a heretofore undiscovered urban legend by releasing a 45 as a 33 1/3, where only the cool people "in-the-know" (your's truly for example) realized they actually had to play it at 45!!! More like she's so deaf, it wouldn't matter to her that it's unlistenable when played at 45. (Yes, political correctness fails me.)

So what are you telling me, you all decided the song sucked as intended, and needed to be faster?! It's a slow-burner mood piece, not a dance floor thumper. YMMV, but the sax sounds ridiculous to me at that speed. Almost like I half expect P. Diddy or 50 Cent to start rapping over it at any second.

Does anyone have the Peel Sessions as they did new songs especially for it?

eight6 - if you wouldn't mind ripping your copy of "The Emigre 2", it would be much appreciated. I agree with SomebodySomewhere in that the version I remember was much slower and 'moodier' for lack of a better description and did clock in at 7 minutes or so.

Sorry to bother you, eight6 - I'm still looking for the 'slower' version of 'The Emigre' - any of the other ones I have located are all the sped up version. If you could rip the 7+ minute version, that would be great!
