downloading from youtube

does anybody know a simple way to download videos from youtube.com? Im sure there is one.

I don't know if this method works, I've never tried it, but I believe I got this from this forum last month.

...put the youtube link -- http://youtube.com/watch?v=IgnpK4bwRZo -- in the entry box. Click the download button to the right of the box. When the download link button appears, right click with your mouse and select Save Target As. Rename the file to whatever you want to call it and make sure to tack on the extension .flv at the end.

Then go to...

...and download CinemaForge. When you get that set up on your computer and it's up and running, click on frequency and change to 44100, click on channels and change to stereo, click on thumbnails and change to None (and sometimes it's a good idea to change the frame size from Same to 800x600) and after you've done all that, click the folder button to the right of the Input box, browse to wherever it is you saved the Youtube file to your computer and import it in. When the filename shows up in the Input box, click the Doc Type button to the right of the Output box and click Motion Picture Experts Group (mpeg). Voila

Cool, I'm a Mac user, so how do you play it? Quick Time, VLC and iTunes don't seem to work.

I also mentioned in the earlier posting that you have to convert the videos with "iSquint" to watch them. To directly watch the .flv (Flashvideo) files you need can use "flv_viewer_0.4.osx". I think you can find it at versiontracker.com

so retrophil06 did you try it does it work?

i have been trying to figure this out for about 6 months, people keep telling me all these differnt sites and equipment, half of the stuff i download and nothing happens? half of the stuff is payware.

im trying this one right here and im doing everything he says to do but after i do that i can not seem to figure out where the go button is or the convert button or whatever? what am i missing?

i can not believe how much trouble i have been having trying to figure this out.

Just use firefox and use one of the extensions like videodownloader or FlashGot.

I use keepvid.com to download and Cinemaforge to convert the flv file to mpeg. Here are the steps:

1. Find video on Youtube & copy url that is to the right of the video

2. Paste video URL at Keepvid.com. Click download. When file is loaded click on download link to save video. Save file as a flv file. ie.- Stabilizers - Tyranny.flv

3. Get Cinemaforge. When installed set quality, framerate, & bitrate to the highest settings. Set audio bitrate and frequency to the highest settings. Set audio channel to stereo.

4. Click on the folder icon next to the file input box and find the file on your computer, select the file, and click open. Click the doc type box next to the output box and click on mpeg.

5. Click on encode under output options. Wait for video to encode to mpeg file. Done.

fyi - the video quality of these files are poor so watch them on your video player resized to about a 6 inch screen.
