Awful song (and album), although I think it's funny how far removed they were from Bang-Bang. I guess if you can't succeed with the commercial, might as well fail with the uncommercial.

Julian Raymond's "vocals" were better suited to DMP, that I'll give them.

They recorded a second album that Mike Clink produced but was never released. I remember the songs from live shows in LA and I recall them being beter than the first album. I'd love to get a boot of that album. I think the only thing Julian Raymond did after that was an EP for Babylon Minstrels (he was the singer). After that he did a lot of producing (Fastball) and then moved to A&R full time.

Yeah, his second career at Capitol Records is great, because it means you don't have to hear him sing. [:D]

I plead ignorance on Babylon Minstrels and any unreleased DMP tracks, but I suffered through their first album once, and I'm amazed even that got released. Granted, Atlantic probably spent no more than 3 cents on promotion... the jacket design probably cost 5 cents. But still.

"Life, Part II" deserved better. Raymond's songs were, for the most part, good, and "This Is Love" was terrific. It seemed to me like Epic just snatched them up so they could bury them; that way, no one else would try to steal Culture Club's thunder. Hell, "This Is Love" is better than anything on Culture Club's third or fourth albums.

Babylon Minstrels was a more mellow DMP. It was OK but nothing spectacular (even for a fan).

Thanks! Now I can retire the vinyl. You probably remember the video. You know, with the boys all jumping around the lifesize Q-bert board. I saw it, like, twice -- which was 3 more times than I heard it on the radio.

Did any of the other DMP personnel follow him over into Babylon Minstrels (or BM, as I was about to call them)? The bassist?

this was my favorite track from the lp and the only one I recall getting airplay in my area
