REQ: Men Without Hats - Moonbeam (1987)

Postby synth_kaden » Sat Jun 01, 2013 4:24 pm

Hi, I'm looking for the tracks on the Moonbeam 12" single by Men Without Hats: http://www.discogs.com/Men-Without-Hats ... se/1205321

Three of the tracks on that 12" were released on Maxi-Single CD: http://www.discogs.com/Men-Without-Hats ... se/1217114, and I'd prefer to get those tracks from the CD version.

Thanks!

Here are FLAC files of my "Moonbeam" CD-Single as well as my own vinyl transfers of the "Extended Vocal Version" and "Dub Beam":

The CD-Single was extremely hard and expensive to acquire and I was disappointed when I finally got it, to discover that Track 1 (Radio Edit) has a mastering issue. The track starts out fine but as it progresses, the pitch and tempo slows down. In a few spots its quite drastic and extremely noticeable. I used Peak software to go through the track measure by measure to correct this error and make sure the pitch and tempo are consistent from start to finish. The time difference between the two tracks is 7 seconds, so that tell you how much the original track had been slowed down! I've added this "fixed pitch" version as well. The remaining tracks on the CD-Single were not affected. Enjoy!

I was wondering if this got posted if it would be a corrected version. I know someone else who had to do the same thing for this flawed version.

Thanks for pointing out the flaws and your methods used to correct the pitch problem with the radio edit. I'm pretty sure I have this (a corrected version) as well. I wonder how close each of you came to creating the same properly pitched version.

When I ripped the 12" Single a few years ago, I noticed how the pitch varied throughout the Radio Edit, so I used the Extended Version and a bit of the Radio Edit to "re-create" a new and improved Radio Edit. I remember uploading it to a forum, and it quickly spread.

I have to check out the CD Single...THANK YOU, Fred!

Thanks for sharing this. Didn't even know it was available as a CD5. I only have the 12" :-). I like this more than Pop Goes the World.

That's funny I never even noticed the 12" having the pitch issue. Probably because I always played the longer full length version. No idea why the full length mix has never found its way onto CD anywhere. That would be an AWESOME gem for some of these labels doing the 80's compilations to snag!
