Uh oh Frank. It's time to double your psycho medication. I'm surprised they let inmates at psychiatric institutions have internet privileges. Do you bribe the guard to your rubber room?

To put things in perspective, what was often considered "Pop" or "Mainstream" or "Top 40" in the UK during the 80's, was often depicted as "New Wave" in the U.S. simply because some of these bands only got airplay on what were considered adventurous "Alternative/New Wave" radio stations here, of which there were relatively few.

It's often difficult to be a purist when the definition of "New Wave" is so fluid and means different things to different people in different territories.

An excellent post and completely agree with you.

Although by the time Curiosity Killed the Cat hit their stride it can be said that new wave was just a recent memory. Also the extended version of 'Down To Earth' can be bought on Amazon.

I have the extended mixes of

Misfit 7:06
Down To Earth 6:06
Ordinary Day 5:26
Mile High 8:08

all from the "Keep Your Distance" CD
http://www.discogs.com/Curiosity-Killed ... se/1010441

It looks like all CD releases of the album has these bonus mixes.

Maybe not 100% new wave, but I agree, bands like Curiosity Killed The Cat really didn't fit into any "mainstream" categories in the USA - I'm from Michigan and remember those days well lol.

I believe "Misfit" was the only Top 40 hit here in the USA and I didn't care for it at the time. I recently ran across the above mentioned extended mix of it and absolutely fell in love with it. Funny how stuff you despised as a kid has a way of growing on you years later.
