There are numerous references in the web to multiple volumes\ compilations "New wave meets retro", but Discogs does not list them. Anyone knows what is the origin of this\these series??

Yep, these are mine :D Compiled them when I started to notice how many covers were done by "New Wave" artists - firstly as a .txt file then as a mp3 volumes (didn't have nearly enough lossless versions then). Originally wanted to include only synth ones but the project soon ballooned uncontrollably. There were some dubious choices along the way (didn't know better) - got so involved I tried to get as many as possible no matter what :D In all there are 29 compiled volumes and maybe stuff for one of two more. I thought of putting them up here but soon forgot about it. If there's any interest I'll do it though.

Wow, 29 volumes?! I have a handful of tracks from what appears to be 3-4 volumes...so, I'd definitely love to hear them, if you have the time to share.

Thank you

I had a chuckle reading the track list of your Volume 01, as Men Without Hats have just covered "2000 Light Years From Home" on their new Men Without Hats Again, Pt. 1 EP.

Thank you guys for the nice feedback! Paul, I'm afraid, those compilations weren't thought out at all :D I kinda aimed to make them as diverse as possible and sometimes threw tracks together without second thought (something that I feel I should do more often when compiling something). But it's nice to know the volumes appear coherent. I myself were surprised when I gave them a listen to find they do not jar that much :)

Anyway, time for the next two in the series!

Volume 03 - Annabel Lamb to Paul Young

01. Annabel Lamb - Riders on the Storm [The Doors]
02. Sal Solo - Go Now [The Moody Blues]
03. Blancmange - Gentle on My Mind [Glen Campbell]
04. Visage - In the Year 2525 [Zager & Evans]
05. Soft Cell - Down in the Subway [Jack Hammer]
06. Jimi Sumen - Rebel Rebel [David Bowie]
07. Japan - All Tomorrow's Parties [The Velvet Underground]
08. Polyphonic Size - Mother's Little Helper [The Rolling Stones]
09. Gary Numan - On Broadway (live) [The Drifters]
10. Paul Young - Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home) [Marvin Gaye]

Volume 04 - Dead or Alive to Kim Wilde

01. Dead or Alive - That's the Way (I Like It) [KC & the Sunshine Band]
02. Strange Cruise - The Beat Goes on [Sonny & Cher]
03. New Musik - All You Need is Love [The Beatles]
04. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - The More I See You [Chris Montez]
05. Trio - Tutti Frutti [Little Richard]
06. Telex - Dance to the Music [Sly & the Family Stone]
07. Wall of Voodoo - Ring of Fire [Johnny Cash]
08. Bananarama - Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye [Steam]
09. No More - Waiting for the Man [The Velvet Underground]
10. Kim Wilde - Putty in Your Hands [The Shirelles]

Wiki says, "Wall of Voodoo's cover version was featured in the 1981 avant-garde pornographic film Nightdreams". My god, I am too shy to imagine what they called 'a ring of fire" in that movie...........

Incidentally, Howard Jones' hide and seek features in Wicked Pictures Reel Sex World 5.

Picked up a superb uncirculated soundboard of Stan Ridgway over the summer.
