I dont really download full albums...unless its something entirely overpriced.

I archive EVERYTHING.

I like to take all the names and artists ever mentioned on this site in the past 3 years I've been here...and plug them into my databases...and generate epic want lists.

I harvest a few grand of cash twice a year and fulfill my want lists.
I also download about 2-3gigs from the italo hubs, for those are rapidly changing. If there is a song one day, it probobly wont be there another...and italo hubs by reputation and existance...are very, very hard to join.

Anyway- these songs help me generate want lists.
I dont share all my collection on the hub.
I am on a campus network. My actual collection has 35,000 songs in it...and when I connect to DC++, SoulSeek, HotLine, etc...I get SWAMPED...and campus kicks me for hogging bandwidth.

Unfortunately....my want lists tend to average about 10,000 items each.
In essence, I am essentially an archivist. I purge a lot of areas. I leave others alone.
I am after all that is new wave, italo, disco, synthpop, dance, house, lounge, funk, and general 80s music.

This quest has costed me a fortune. Sometimes its a full time job. I have no free time usually. I am administrator in Student Employment and Im a full time student. I do well in school, but I have no free time. I force free time....merely to listen, collect, and download.
Its a world-building exccersize...I collect other media from the era. Its quite strange. I put it all together....its kind of an addiction. Synth music does something. Its like LSD honestly....only better.
I was always obsessed with synth music....since I was 5 and heard the solo ending of Lucky Man by ELP. The weird feelings/visions that come from listening to it first happened when I was undergoing treatment for schizophrenia, and I started taking hallucinagens while medicated...it warped my perception of reality permanantly....but its all the best...because I see colors/places when I listen to my music.

I have to have it all...so that I can trade for more. If I spend an extra $30 on an albumm thats rare, I might be able to trade it for a rare album that I cant find....that I really really want.

And also....I like to have a HUGE amount of music on hand...because I like to get drunk...and share everying in a very funny/crazy weird-ass series of posts Im known for as the 'Drunken Mp3 hoarde'. The incoherence of the post will confuse you, but the music...occaisionally has a pain-in-the-ass to find song or two that I am permitted to share (Sometimes artists, traders, and wavers request I not share some music).

I'd say I collect though I've never been such a die-hard collector as Frayo and others. I usually download most of the stuff here, then give it a listen. What doesn't meet my taste goes into the bin. The rest is remastered (if necessary) to the same format that MikeP chose to use (variable bitrate, 192Kbps at least) and burned to disc. Some groups and songs become so attractive that I even buy the CD or LP. I even went as far as to purchase an LP of a band I'd never even heard of before and without having listened to one song by them just because one of you gave me a hint that I might like it and it is great (btw, Camera Obscura is the name of the group).

Yikes, I hope you don't mean transcode a lower bitrate MP3 to ~192, because that actually makes it sound worse. You're never going to get better quality than the "original" source.

I save everything I download, unless I later buy the CD. My reasoning is that I might not like it now, but I may like it in the future. With data storage options so cheap now (eg, DVD Rs), there's no reason for me not to.

I listen to what I collect. I dont collect just so I can stand back and say "hey, look at the size of my new wave collection". In fact, I've never posted about the size of my collection until now.

I just noticed that you are from Latvia. I was wondering if you have some 80s music from there? 80s music from the former USSR is hard to find, but I really really like it. How dis new wave sound over there and I was wondering if I might be able to trade something for some 80s (and new wave) from over there?

I think you can put me somewhere between Frayo and Plastik44 when it comes to collecting or being a nerd. Through this forum I learned a lot of new eigthies bands which most of them I like very much. I hardly find the time to listen to all the stuff I found here, so there are periodes that I'm not downloading stuff simply because I still am listening to the burned MP3 CD's.

Before burning I check all the ID3 tags, which takes an awfull lot of time, but in the end this makes it easy to catalog.

Besides that I still have a hugh list of bands of which I buy every CD or DVD that's released (including unofficial releases).

BTW would love to scroll through your database Frayo.

BTW 2 MAGICs I visited your country in 1993 and really liked it.
