1. If it's in a funky format other than MP3 - SKIP (rather than transcode and further degrade it)
2. If it's poor quality (judging by size) - SKIP (I can likely find better on a hub)
3. If it says Extended DJ Mastah Jizzbomb Alnight Disco Mix or something similar - SKIP
4. If it's some gimicky mashup - SKIP
5. If it's from someone with a great posting record - GET
6. If it's the 10th track in a row posted by someone with a great record - SKIP (thanks but I have a short attention span and it's too much to digest with all the noise here)
7. If it's posted by someone with consistently bad tagging habits - SKIP (I can't be constantly bothered to retag even good songs)
8. If it's posted in rapidshare (as if!) - SKIP [/quote]

Seriously , I'm not trying to be an ass but I have a question or two.
While I agree with the majority said here...
1.) Whats wrong with m4a/AAC format? It is a better quality rip than MP3.
That is how all of my music is formatted and I wouldn't change it.
10.) Whats wrong with rapidshare? I'd take that over megaupload any day, megaloadofcrap is more like it.

Just curious.

Not saying there's anything "wrong" with it. I'm just not grabbing it. I like my universally compatible MP3s that I can back up to XML tagged MP3 DVDs whose contents immediately pop up in iTunes when I insert the disk - the script doesnt' seem to work with AACs. I also prefer not to transcode from one compressed format into another, further littering the internet with degraded rips. I'll just "personally" get it somehow else.

It's not rapid ("you must wait X seconds/minutes"...um, no, I mustn't), and they condone the most heinous abuses of web interface design that could possibly be found at a single site. [:o)]

I'll dl if it looks interesting and New Wave. Not club mixes, dj mixes, mashups, superduper ex. mixes, all that stuff....I'm open-minded, but almost all the time, those types of songs turn out to be grating. I've discovered so much NW from back in the day that I didn't even know existed, so that's been fun.
Also, early demo tracks and B-Sides are swell.
I don't care how it's tagged, though--it takes 5 seconds to tag it correctly once you get it. Big deal.

In response to the original question. I usually look, as you all probably do, at the thread title to pique my interest. Quite honestly, I have almost every 'new wave' song I want. From time to time though, I do find an extended remix from an original 12" that intrests me.

I look for original releases. Not mash-ups. Not 'electroclash/trance' versions. not razormaid (although the later does have some solid mixes actually created in the 80's usually using the unique albiet primitive remix methods.)

I don't get as irratated as others when requests for painfully obvious tracks like Nina Hagens 'New York, New York' or Total Coelo "I Eat Cannibals" come up. But it does make me suspect. I have discovered things on this site that I overlooked when I actually lived through that period.

So, you're going to pass on the DJ Allnight Jizzbomb?
