Hi, all - I'm new to the boards here but I've visited the NWOutpost in the past. I landed here this time while looking for info on the track "Memories Fade" by The Lifters. I liked what I read & decided to register. I've been into local & indie rock for years & have a number of records from the 80's and some 90's, back when WBCN (R.I.P.) played a LOT of local bands (Jon Butcher, The Lines, The Neighborhoods, The Real Kids, The Atlantics, Face to Face, Digney Fignus, The Blackjacks, The Dark, The Fools, Gary Shane & The Detour, etc. I also taped a lot of stuff off 'BCN as well as "Bay State Rock" on WAAF and "Sound Check" on WHJY in Providence. I look forward to reading more & contributing to the discussion.

Hi - The "Dress In Black" on the Trobbing Lobster compilation IS different from the one on the E.P. (I like both of them.) They also released another EP called "Basic Blackjacks" which included the track "Dreaming of Saturday Again". That song got a fair amount of airplay at the time.

Hi - The Lines were from Brockton, MA. They're the band that got me into local rock. They got my attention with a really rockin' cover of the lame Olivia Newton-John song "Physical" (never released). The Dirty Water LP came out on Sideman Records. It probably is out of print, but I saw a copy a few months ago at a record show in Dedham. I liked their version of Dirty Water - lots of distortion & Joe Perry played lead on that track. My copy is kinda scratchy by now...

NOTE: The Lines opened their own restaraunt in Brockton called The Maserati Bar and Grill. I don't know if it's still around or not, but I remember getting mail about it from their fan club "The Linesbackers."

[/quote] I kept looking for Duke & The Drivers records but couldn't find 'em anywhere. I finally got a few on Ebay (I think some guy in the UK had them.) Every Duke record I have ever seen was stamped as "Promotional Copy - Not for sale." The only exception was a live CD that my brother in law gave me a couple of years ago.

Great song! I really like the overdriven guitar solo on this track. It was included on one of the "Boston Rock Anthology" albums. I have volumes 2 through 9 I believe. I never did find volume one, though - I read that it was available only on cassette for a short time. I think these were put together by Joe Viglione - his band "The Count" was on every one.

Hi - V66 was very cool. A video channel that played local bands? How awesome was that?? I remember seeing Jon Butcher and New Man on there a lot. I've watched some of the Youtube V66 stuff & it's great. It was a real shock when they became a home shopping channel. Somewhere in my basement I still have a V66 bumber sticker floating around...

Yes, that Lifters tune is one of my faves- saw them perform this on Local Licks TV show with Zip Rzeppa early 80's on ch.27, ran down to In Your Ear and bought the 45, have never seen it since. Used to see Carbonara in East Coast Muscle, too. Glad you enjoyed. You're welcome.

BR, do you have a Lines discography by any chance? Off the top of my head, I have "Standby" (1983), "Dirty Water" (1984) and "Take Me Away" (1985) on vinyl, and "Will You Still Love Me When I've Lost My Mind?" (1987) on vinyl and CD. Also the 2 live tracks they contributed to "Live at the Metro" (1982). Was there anything else?

Speaking of "Live at the Metro," here's one of said tracks. This was when Pat Dreier and most of the rest of The Drive were still in the band.
