Automatic

I'm looking for a song with the possible title "Automatic". My memory of it is pretty hazy, but I think it may have been by El DeBarge (?) or maybe it was by some soundalike, I dunno. It sort of had that "Matthew Wilder "Break My Stride" feel to it.

Any help?

Without a audio clue, not really. Part of the song has lyrics that go "down, down, down", at least I think so...shit, it's been so many years since I've heard it, I could be getting more than one song mixed in with it. "All of my systems are down" was one of the lines. I think...

Dee D. Jackson sang "See Me, Hear Me, Feel Me" in Automatic Lover. (Like the Who song from Tommy.) Did the song have that in it?

Could it have been the Pointer Sisters song Automatic? It wasn't sung by the newly deceased sister who usually did all the leads, but the deep voiced one.

It's almost certainly the Pointer Sisters--their "Automatic" contains both of the above lyrics. ("All of my systems are down...down down down...aw-toe-mat-tic...")

Hutter could it possibly be the song Automatic Man by Michael Sembello? He once did a song by that title and it was his second biggest song on the charts at the time.Like number 34 or something. This is the same guy who had the hit with Maniac from the movie Flashdance at the time.

Hutter

That is Automatic by the Pointer Sisters -- "No way to control it, its completely automatic, All of my systems are down, down, down down.."

Hutter, doesn't it seem a bit intuitive (psychic) that you would think of a song by a band where one of the singers has just passed? Well done medium rae.[8)]

Wouldn't be the first time for me. I ended up buying a Best of Johnny Carson DVD set a few days before his passing...and I don't even care much for Carson. Weird, indeed.

Oh, and thank you, wozgo. No shame in liking this song.

Yeah, this is one of psuedo new wave tunes. You know when an artist like Linda Ronstadt or Melissa Manchester tried to get on the new wave train.. we could start a whole thread of this.

I have memories hearing this song on the radio during Mardi Gras when i was a teen. This sounds like a song Tiga would cover well.. i have the extended at home will have to post. I think this would definitely be considered "Negro Clash"

Not a bad idea! Maybe motors would share his Shawn Cassidy "Wasp" tracks again.

For some reason, as a kid I thought the song "Automatic" was about this guy...
