Now here's a tough one. Maybe some of you remember that TV show from 86/87 starring Nick Mancuso. He called himself 'Ray' - his real personality being secret - and drove a corvette stringray (obviously). He solved problems for others in return for a favor.

That show had some amazing tunes but they never got published in any way. apart from the well known theme by mike post/pete carpenter bands like the rolling stones & oingo boingo contributed tracks. don't know about the other ones but every episode had a single track - f.e. 'I'll fly away' , 'Ether' or 'The eagle cries'. If somebody has any of this series, PLEASE post 'em here!

Gotta agree with ya--lots of great tunes were on that show!! Would definatly like to hear them again. One song I really liked--although it may actually have been on Hunter and not Stingray--was a tune called "Ether"--no clue who it was by though.

I never taped the show, I only vaguely remember it, and I don't have any recollection of any of the songs in question, but Mike Post and Stephen Geyer composed original pop/rock songs for most of Stephen Cannell's shows in the '80s. Not just the theme songs, but music within the episode. BMI confirms that's what "Ether" was -- and probably the others, too. And, no, none of them were ever commercially-available.

Chances are, Anchor Bay will be putting the series out on DVD in the near future. With most of the music replaced, I'm sure.

Pretty powerful thought--the fact that I remember the tune Ether from viewing an episode once almost 20 years ago???? Damn-now I really want that song!!!!!

...and it really sucks when dvd releases drop the original scores in the shows. Anyone remember Wiseguy when Sonny Steelgrave fries himself to Nights In White Satin? Well if you did not see it in the day--you wont now. The music has been dropped from any releases--and that WAS such a great scene.

hm, i know that i still have some episodes taped somewhere. but at least to my knowledge not even the bands and titles have been credited in there. damn, i wish i had at least the names! [xx(]

No, but I remember the episode of "The Greatest American Hero" with "Eve of Destruction." Most DVD companies pick and choose their battles of what songs are pertinent to the episode and which are replaceable. But not Anchor Bay. Everything's replaceable to them. Sometimes, I'm not even sure if they try to get the rights cleared.

Seems like nowadays, the only thing they can get right is cover art. Ever since Bill Lustig left, their transfers have been consistently terrible. "Sledge Hammer!" had some of the cleverest packaging of any TV show on DVD release -- and they blew it by transfering all the episodes from videotapes. Although at least they got the music right.
