Hey Obs,

I followed EAC download. I`m having a little trouble figuring out Lame, Monkey Audio Encoder, & Ogg Vorbis.

When I downloaded Lame & opened up the zip file I got bunch of stuff , not sure what to do there. Do I need to download Monkey, If so , what one? I tried opening up Ogg Vorbis but says it can`t find the file. Any info will help or if you want to email me, that would be fine also. Thanks
PS I have windows XP & I usually use Real Player or & Windows Media Player.

For LAME, just put LAME.EXE into the same directory where EAC is. Then you need to configure EAC to use it with LAME (since LAME.EXE is just a commandline program).

For additional commandline options, I use
[b]-V 2 --vbr-new %s %d[/b]
%s = source; %d = destination. If you don't add this, it won't work.
-V 2 --vbr-new creates variable bitrate files ~192-224. It's indistinguishable from the original CD in most cases (or so I'm told).

If you want to do tagging, follow what is listed at the Quick Setup Guide:
[b]-V 2 --vbr-new --add-id3v2 --pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d[/b]
It's supposedly better to use the extra switches, but I don't do tagging so ...


The radio buttons for High Quality/Low Quality can be ignored for now. Just set it on High.

The Bitrate dropdown box can pretty much be ignored also. Just put it at 192. This field is ignored when you use a custom commandline, but is used for estimating the file size in the main window.


I only encode to MP3, so I don't know about Monkey/APE or Ogg. If you want to use those types of compression, I suggest just figuring out EAC with MP3s first, and then you can go back later after you've got it down doing MP3s.

I`m feeling like a Jackass, but when I downloaded lame & unzipped the folder I don`t see Lame.exe.If I paste lame.exe, it says Wrong Path or program. I feel that I`m close but am missing something.

I got it going ok but when I play a song, It doesn`t come in so good( static sound). Do you know what I need to change or adjust? Thanks

God you are making it hard for yourselves. What you want is DBpoweramp, its free (at least the version up to v9 is - as they couldnt distribute lame with after version 9). Do not download the latest version from the site as it does not have an encoder.

So here is version 9 (googled) EASY to use.

Its got a great conversion facility as well.

I use EAC and Lame as well, but prefer to use the CBR rather than VBR as it makes it easy to edit. VBR files are impossible to edit with losing a lot of the sound quality.

I usually find with EAC rips that there's a couple of seconds silence
at the end of the track or sometimes at the beginning and like to trim it out so there's no silence.

I occasionally get 12" tracks and like to cut them down to 7" lengths so that I get the best bit of the track.

I use mp3DirectCut (v 2.02) to trim mp3s. Easy to use and no loss of sound quality.

I use Cool Edit Pro for editing, easy to use and very powerful.

Sorry, been very busy ... two jobs, etc.

Did you get the static thing fixed? I recall some XP users having problems (from posts at the EAC forum) but since I don't really use XP ... It might have been XP's burning service that runs in the background by default.

Not sure what you mean. If it is configured to use LAME, you just select the tracks you want to rip in the main EAC window and click on the MP3 icon. Uploading to YouSendIt is, of course, something you have to do later manually.

This is nothing to do with EAC. The silence is part of the CD. Anyways, while it is not recommended, there is an option to delete the silence at the end of the track. It's not recommended, because it takes away from the "exactness" of a rip. Ideally, you should be able to rip and album, compress it to MP3, and when decoded back to WAVE later, it should have the correct space in between tracks (barring the few extra frames that is part of the limitations of MP3). You can also try playing with the gap options also (such as Leave Gaps Out).
