If one more person says 'Whistle Down The Wind', I'll shoot em. The song is when they enter the dance, and maybe has the lyric 'Eileen.....Eileen....', many thanx to those who could educate this 'Not Knowing As Much As He Used To Think He Did' person

I used to wonder what the Hell it was too. This is the only answer I've seen that makes sense (found on the IMDB.com message board for the movie):
"Unfortunately the song we have all been looking for for the last 20 years is not a real song.
It is an in-house number that sounds like Madness' "Our House" crossed with Dexy's Midnight Runners "Come On Eileen" . Some studio whizzes created this tune for the film because they could not secure the music rights to "Our House" by Madness. The song created for the film actually sounds like it would be better than both aforementioned "actual" songs. If anyone out there reading this has any info on the whereabouts of this generic gem they should release it as a single called "That Sixteen Candles Song". They would make a million bucks. i know that almost everyone I know thinks this song sounds choice."

Haha...awesome. I always wondered about this song, and that seems like the most likely hypothesis. How else to explain the gap in the soundtracks credits? I definitely heard a little bit of "Our House" in there.
I agree that they should release it in some form or another. I estimate that by placing it on iTunes, they could gain a thousand bucks or two.
Ah, Molly...

When I saw the TV version of Sixteen Candles, they put "Rev Up" by the Rivellos in it, but yet I couldn't find it listed on the soundtrack listings on the web anywhere.
Looks like they pulled a WKRP on the tv airing.
