Does anyone else have speed issues with the hub? I use Limewire and that's fine but with the hub it literally takes about 3 hours per song. I figure it would be faster to go out, find the original surviving members, practice a bit, do a few warm-up gigs, sign a few aurographs, then re-record the song and that would be faster then downloading it on the hub!

If you're looking for Flock Of Seagulls songs, I'm sure that can be arranged!

Which brings up a good question; Is there ANY redeeming qualities to A Flock of Seagulls? For a band with only one hit, those guys got a lot of mileage with those hairdo's!

AFOS were one of the truly great 'new wave' bands and had three great albums (self-titled, Listen and Story Of A Young Heart) and one fairly good album (Dream Come True) before splitting up.

The first three are almost flawless gems with great, but simple, synth/guitar pop. Hooks galore.

by the fourth album, Dream Come True, they (or mainly Mike Score) was trying to take the band in a different direction, although not all of it is successful. Some of the lyrics are awful ('Love On Your Knees') and 'Hot Tonight' is the worst track they ever laid down...

Couldn't have said it better, Spaz. The Story of a Young Heart is in my all time top ten, and rivals early TFF for depressing music.

Score (IMO) redeemed himself a bit with "The Light at the End of the World" There are a couple of good tracks on that such as "Rainfall"

DC hubs in general, my experience:

- you're more limited to a particular user's upstream than your downstream speed
- if you're the only uploader, you should see a typical UP speed of ~45kbytes, which is basic cable & DSL's claimed ~350kbit rating
- occasional users will have 100-400kB UP, an amazing 800-3200kb speed
- but some users just have terrible UP speed or have lots of slots being used and distributed among multiple users
- if you glom onto the fattest shares and expect you're not among 8 others sucking off them, think again
- it's why grabbing & resharing is not only encouraged but mandated to some extent to spread the load and increase speeds

I just grabbed a (rare) album, my client found all users with it, distributed the DL among them, and got it in about 5 minutes. But yeah, I've also had an ultra-obscure album being shared by only one crushingly slow user and just let it run for 2 days. I was thinking about demanding my money back but....

LOL, so true. The service is free and the treasure is practicaly limitless so it's sort of pointless to make any meaningful complaint. I just want to stress the importance of sharing what you download. It really makes it easier for everyone else! And I can't overstate the value in logging on and staying on. If you can do it, it's just so much better as it makes the Hub communal archive all the more richer.

I can't stand seeing people jump on to grab one or two songs that they wanted and immediately jump off. USER! I'm not saying you need to be on 24/7, but jeez, if you come on, at least stick around a couple of hours so we can at least see what you got. I think hub owners should consider banning those people who see it as a resource to them but not vice versa.

I haven't downloaded anything in months - but my computer continuously loses it's internet connection. I feel like I'm not sitting there baby-sitting it, I'll drive you all nuts with incessant "WolverineSyr has left the Hub"..."WolverineSyr has entered the hub" over & over & over.
Instead I sit there & drive you all nuts with incessant chatter!

LOL...oops...I didn't mean you at all! It's perfectly understandable if you don't want to spend a LOT of time on the hub. That's very different than popping in and out for 5 minutes at a time several times a day, just looking for A song then bailing. Whatever...nevermind...it's not my hub and I don't wanna give the impression that it's a militant place...it's a really very chilled environment, even more-so than the Outpost.

Take note putting too many rules and If x banned = true, you'll end up with like 2 members only allowed to get on the hub, and one would be a bot.

Like I said, it's a pretty chilled place. There's almost no rules but it's nevertheless really quite a nice civil environment for sharing music. But like with any "sharing" environment, the key word is "sharing". You can show up with almost nothing, and all people are asking is that you reshare even what you download.

I knew that! I've always felt guilty about spending a limited amount of time on the hub - it's simply my (non-catholic) guilt speaking. [;)]

Actually, I wasn't so much bitching about the hub as just trying to see if there is something wrong with my setting - as it apparently appears to be. In fact, of the few songs it has maneged to download, hey are all cut off at some point in the song. Maybe its a mac-connection thing, like I'm not using the latest P2P software version because I'm not on Tiger...
