Obscure80s

Sometimes, one of the best things is stumbling upon music from OUR era ('80s) that I've never heard before. It happens all the time to me. Although I've been a hardcore collector of '80s music for 26 years, I can never own everything and I can never know everything (and anyone that tells you that they know everything or that no one knows more than them is an effin' idiot!).
I love to discover things that I've never heard before. This place is the perfect spot for it.

So, I've decided to put together an Album Capsule for you of a band that you may or may not have heard before. This is roughly 3 minutes of musical highlights from an album I've been listening to. Do YOU know who it is?

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?a ... F302BE2C70

...and I'm sure if you can pick up some of the song titles, you can Google them and find out...but I want to know if any of you have ever heard it before.

Here's a few hints. The album is produced by Mark Opitz (who produced many cool bands back in the '80s....mostly Australian....)

They've got a bit of INXS, Simple Minds and others mixed in to the sound....

Good choice, Justin.....but NOT the right answer! Yes, I guess you could say that there is a hint of Machinations in there as well!

As I said, it is an obscure band that I didn't know existed until a few months ago and I never heard until a few days ago.....

I've been enjoying it quite a bit....

I have a feeling that someone may get it just cuz it's a good guess (or they do a google search for lyrics or song titles)...

I'm really interested to see if anyone actually knows the band cuz they are a fan!

This is the great thing about this part of the forum....you can share those rare and exciting things with others. Whether someone else likes it is up to them.

Another thought that came to mind after listening to the horrible 1985 EP release by The Models is the band Dragon that were famous for their single "Rain" which I had totally forgotten about

Even I can tell you it's not Dragon. And they weren't terrible - they just changed their sound. Body And The Beat (the album from which "Rain" is drawn) is actually an amazing album.

My guess is The Amazing Woolomoloosers. But what do I know.

Hm... the sound reminds of NOISEWORKS (also produced by Mark Opitz), but the singer sounds different. I can also remember a promo sampler of that time named "1988 Australian Rocks" including well-known acts like FLASH & THE PAN and MIDNIGHT OIL next to more obscure bands like WA WA NEE or THE PARTY BOYS. Any of these?

Of course, I've also tried to google some of the (obvious) song titles and found "Sex and fame" by JUMP INCORPORATED.

Just guessin'...

....and we have a winner!

JUMP INCORPORATED!

I've never heard the band until a few days ago and really like them! Only one album but a handful of singles as well.

I don't believe that the members did much after the band broke up (and I don't believe that the album was released outside of Australia).

Well, and now, of course, WE (or at least I) want to hear the album, too!!! [:)]

By the way, I've found this on ebay:

It's coming on Cd via Almacantar in a few months....

The full LP plus b-sides and extended mixes (and maybe a few surprises)...

I've been working on digitally transferring the album, but decided to throw a few snippets up here to see what y'all thought of the music (not the transfering since I haven't cleaned it up yet).

I really like them.....yet another new band to get excited about!
