Hopefully we can get it right this time and post truly obscure 80's stuff in this thread. I'll throw a couple out to start:


Glamorcult was in reality Eric Simpson, who recorded under the names Glamorcult, Sinatra Stone and Drama. Eric had a real habit of reworking songs and then re-recording them. Tropical Romance is an example of this habit, I think there are at least 3 versions of this song: this is easily the best.

Land Of Giants never performed a single live performance and were together a very short time. They did however produce this synth classic, titled "Cannibal Dolls" that still gets play in Europe, and commands upto $200.00 U.S. when popping up on eBay. This was their only release.

Actually, I have vinyl with it spelled as both Glamorcult, and Glamor Cult...I've always assumed the same (Glamour Cult), but apparently, no.

Some know of 3-D's excellent regional 1980 hit "X-Ray Eyes". Fewer know of other equally signature early new wave sounds both on their first S/T album and the See It Loud followup...unless perhaps they had the benefit of the nice MFV double. [:p]

Dude! I've actually been wondering this. The 3D of the 1984 Break the Fix 7"...so, definitely different band? Are they just "3D" vs X-Ray Eyes' "3-D"?

And while we're at it, do you know anything about the Dance to Believe 12"??

Different band...3D was from the U.K., 3-D were U.S. based.

Of course, the debate will rage forever as to which one is more deserving of the coverted "gentle" new wave classification.

I know I have at least 3 copies of it...for some reason I kept thinking I didn't own a copy. Fuck, I gotta stop doing that. The songs on it were:

Dance to Believe
Nearer
The Club

Pretty sure it's on RAK Records out of the U.K. All 3 songs are excellent.

Cool! That really clears up a lot for me. And LOL about the extra records...I have a feeling a few guys here do the dupe thing quite a bit.

So what about 4 D then...we know for sure they were the German new wave band who sang Sexappeal back in '82, right?? [:o)]

Eight6--thanks for the info on Land of Giants--Ive loved the tune Cannibal Dolls from the first time I heard it ( which was actually about 2 years ago ) Never could get any info on them.

Hmmmm... seeems like deja vu all over again!
