I remember KROQ was fond of playing a particular version of "Tainted Love" that intermixed all types of tunes and sound effects including The Human League's "Sound of the Crowd." What is the name of this mix/version and where has it originated?

That was from the UK remix service DMC (Disco Mix Club), one of their "epics" called the "Soft Cell Mix."

They had several fantastic epics:

Blue Monday Mix
Yaz - Don't Go Mix
F.G.T.H. - Relax Mix
Art Of Noise Mix

They are compiled on a CD, "Best of Epics," that DMC released as a promo many years ago.
