SSQ's "pre-SSQ" ep

I found this interesting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Q_EP

I downloaded some unfamiliar tracks labeled as "SSQ" that were not on the playback album. I thought it was the cassette-only track, but apparently I got the ones from the Q EP. Rock on. Not as good as the SSQ album, but a worthy addition.

Okay, I dunno what I have here. I'm listening to "Video game" and it's not listed on the Q ep, nor is "In Living Color". Maybe those are the cassette tracks? Nope, those are listed on the wikipedia page. Strange.

It's funny you mentioned that because i downloaded tracks along time ago in the Napster, since then i have a good digital copy of Playback. But when I got a good copy I wondered where the title track "Playback" was.. "Playback" wasnt on the album, but somehow I knew the song.. does that make any sense.. where could I have heard it?

I didnt have the EP but I would love to hear those other 3 tracks you have..

I'm definitely no SSQ expert but the song "Playback" was on a compilation called Enigma Variations (vol. 1)

"Video Game" is probably "Video Girl" (it begins with the line, "I want to play video games"). It (or some version of it) is on the misleadingly titled Thump! records comp, "The Best of Stacey Q."

"In Living Color" is actually "The Model", which is also on the Thump! comp.

I thought that the Thump! release was a set of remixes done when it was released ?1990? or so. Not the original versions.

It's a strange compilation. All the Stacey Q songs (except maybe "Shy Girl")are remixes/remakes. Some of the SSQ songs--"Synthecide", "Playback", "Screaming in my Pillow", "Music's Gone"--sound a lot like the originals; if they're remakes they're note-for-note remakes. "Big Electronic Beat" sounds like a bad early-90s remix. Then there are a couple of house songs of uncertain origin.

I have the 7 inch record, "Q" Playback with the flip side "Music's Gone".
I bought it at a record sale, and a d.j. glued the b side to a 12 inch record and I was never able to listen to "Music's Gone".

If someone can post it here, I would appriciate it.

Hey British,
Any chance you could e-mail me those "SSQ" Q tracks?
I've been looking for a vinyl copy for over 24 years.
I've called every record shop on the West Coast and
not a one of them has ever heard of this.

Posting the tracks would be welcome as well.

...and I haven't felt so alive, in years.

I'll try for it this weekend. Heck, I think I bought two copies of Playback in my lifetime.

SSQ are so new wave it hurts. To me they are the epitome of the US new wave sound and I really love their stuff, if you could post it on here it would be appreciated by yours truly. [:)]

I don`t want to lose my New Wave License but what was some of SSQ hits. I heard a song by them that I believe was posted here a while ago but I can`t remember the name of the song. All that thinking is burning my brain.[xx(] Any info would be great if someone could please list some of their songs. Thanks In Advance.

"In Living Color" is "The Model"

"Shy Girl" is a solo Stacey Q song--is was from her EP on On the Go Records, and it was reissued as a single after "Two of Hearts" made it big.

My guess is that they come from the Thump comp, although the titles and track numbers are different. Who knows? Brilliant stuff, nevertheless.
