Auckland Walk - Sinking Ships

Well, guys, nobody ever opens or reads my threads, but all the same, I'd thought I'd jump on the bandwagon here and post some stuff from my big (but never big enough) library. Rather than rip entire albums, I'm starting off ripping my favorite tracks. Kind of like the Song of the Week revisited, if you will. If you like what you hear, give a holler, and I'll post more.

New Zealand new wave act The Knobz were riding high in 1980 with their national Top 10 smash, "Culture," (which lampooned then-Prime Minister Rob Muldoon, who decided pop music deserved a 40% tax, because it -- unlike other forms of music -- wasn't culture), and some reasonably-successful followups, but by '81, were in shambles. Late additions Warwick Keay (bass) and Carey Peterson (lead vocals) stepped in to fill some departed seats until what was left of the band completely imploded in 1982. Keay and Peterson decided to branch off and form their own act, Auckland Walk -- who were based in take-a-guess-where. Damien Saunders on guitar, Michel Morris on keyboards and Eddie Olsen on drums rounded out the quintet, who were soon signed to WEA.

In late 1983, the single, "I Wasn't Thinking," and album, "Rhythmic Tendencies," appeared, both produced by Gerard Carr and Keay.

Reviews were scathing (including one for Rip It Up that was written by a teenager) and the band never released a followup. By 1986, Olsen had jumped ship to the far more popular Dance Exponents.

Sorry for beating up a horse dead for 6 (!) years, but this thread got "washed" onto the "Google shore" when I did a search for Auckland Walk, who have been virtually unavailable to this day.

Plus,I couldn't even do it in private, since you, SomebodySomewhere, do not allow e-mails to be sent your way. So replying to this ancient thread was the only way out to get hold of these gems...

Though I love NZ bands, some of them are to "power-pop-ish"/"punk-ish" or they simply contain too many noisy guitars =))
Yet another sounded like a bad Madness copycat...


So I would now be very happy to get these goodies via this way. (Probably the only one left for me?).
I have managed to track down almost all I wanted through the years *BUT* these guys.
