This is a tough question -- some people think DW is a great underappreciated band and others think their music is "precious" and too much like Steely Dan to matter. I heard "Mary's Prayer" when it was originally released off the Meet Danny Wilson album. I liked it, bought the CD, and it really grew on me. Later, I bought their 2nd CD (BeBop Moptop), which is good but not as good as their first.

Then one day I was able to listen to some of Gary Clark's solo stuff post-DW and liked it too. He's definitely a songwriter that takes some getting used to but he tends to have a very good ear for pop melodies that seem fresh and catchy 10 years on.
