The one on party Party Soundtrack is the original verison (5:50), the one on the gift and every other comp (5:39 or 5:43) is the re-record that first appeared on the if I was 12"

From where do you have the information, that the song was re-recorded?
I've never spotted any difference between the version on the Party Party Soundtrack and the one on the Gift CD except of a slightly longer fade.

I read it on some Midge Ure discography site, yes it is longer and a re-record. But does anyone have it.

I've got the version from the Party Party CD and it clocks in at 5:43. Perhaps they used different versions on the vinyl and CD issues.

Well, the version clarence posted is identical to the one on the 'If I Was' 12inch and the 'Gift' remasters (I have all of these!)
(So according to the board policy this should be removed as it is still commercially available.)

I also checked my 'Party Party' Vinyl and a MP3 rip I found on the net some time ago and I must admit: Andee, you're right - the version on the original Party Party OST is different!!!

But I'm not sure, if the newer one is really a re-recording or just a remix. On the newer version of "Man Who Sold The World" the piano sound is much more prominent in the mix, the drums sound a little more "crisp" (though still the same computer sounds), the vocals (especially the whispers) are mixed a bit different and it has a different fade out. Everything else seems identical for my ears.

I will post the older version later - no time right now.

@clarence:
Do you own the Party Party CD? Or do you just have an MP3 version from the net?
I have also have a complete MP3 rip of the soundtrack, but I'm not sure if it is really from CD or just a good vinyl remaster. Mine includes the original version of MWSTW, though.
