Depeche Mode - But Not Tonight [US Single Version]

Postby Bellenger1981 » Thu Mar 28, 2013 12:40 pm

Does anyone know where I can find a lossless copy of Depeche Mode's "But Not Tonight [U.S. Single Version]"? This is the version remixed by Robert Margouleff and issued as the single A-side in the U.S. (with "Stripped" as the U.S. B-side) from the "Modern Girls" motion picture soundtrack. Has it even been released on CD? Am I just overlooking it somewhere? I cannot find it. Thank you.

If I remember correctly, just extract the audio from the music video. It is the Robert Margouleff remix version from the "Modern Girls" soundtrack. The US 7" single version is the same, it just fades out earlier. It has never been officially released on CD.

All the best,

None of the Robert Margouleff mixes have ever been officially released on CD. I know the song is not held in high esteem by the band but it's always been one of my favorite DM tracks! Several years ago I did my own vinyl transfers from the U.S. 12" single and from the U.S. vinyl LP of the "Modern Girls" soundtrack. I think I may have even shared MP3's of them here. But this is the age of lossless and I'm happy to help. So here are my own (extremely clean!) vinyl transfers of:

But Not Tonight (7inch Remix) 4:26
from:

But Not Tonight (U.S. Extended Mix) 6:18

I don't own the U.S. 7" single of "But Not Tonight" and am aware the label says it is 3:54, but I've yet to run into any version anywhere that is actually 3:54???

I removed the need for a password, try now. I'm sorry, this is my first time sharing anything via MediaFire.

Thanks Fred so much for sharing these, however if you you are using Mediafire don't upload any files that are audio file format(mp3, AAC, WAV, etc.) but rather ZIP or RAR them first. Also, don't name the files any obvious, searchable names or, as you have seen, they are cross-referenced with Amazon's database and then blocked. They seem to auto-screen general artist and/or song titles and not specific mixes or releases. Also, don't password protect the ZIP/RAR archive because Mediafire cannot ascertain their contents and lumps them in with encrypted/corrupted files and will restrict access.

The effort is appreciated, but it still states "permission denied". See Analogue's post. Thanks again.

You are so kind! Thank you so much (and for the WAV file)!!! I'll assume that this is an audio rip from the Videos 86>98+ DVD. [:D]

Well gee whiz I haven't uploaded anything in a few years and it seems everything has changed lol. OK, one last try with a different site that I see others have recently used.....

http://www53.zippyshare.com/v/39786465/file.html

for my own vinyl rips of:

But Not Tonight (7inch Remix) 4:26
from:
http://www.discogs.com/Various-Modern-G ... ase/402850

But Not Tonight (U.S. Extended Mix) 6:18
from:
http://www.discogs.com/Depeche-Mode-But ... ease/70652

And thanks for the WAV rip from the DM Videos DVD! I've been meaning to get that DVD just so I could do an audio rip, but wasn't sure what the sound quality of the audio track was gonna be. Appreciate the effort!

Thank you for the compliments on my vinyl transfers. After years of hard work transferring everything in my record collection that was not readily available on CD, it's nice to be able to share some of it with people who appreciate it. :-)

Fred, to be honest with you, I actually prefer your vinyl transfer over the DVD audio transfer (although I still greatly appreciate the kindness of eighties!) Your transfer does not even sound like it was taken from vinyl. It's always nice to have somebody willing to share these rarities which have never made it to CD. Hope to hear more of your work. :)

Thank you Bellenger. Unfortunately it seems when companies put out video compilations they don't bother remastering the audio tracks or finding the original audio masters and re-syncing them to the video. So, while the audio from the video was decent, I agree that the vinyl actually has more dynamic range and better EQ. I was lucky enough several years ago to find a MINT/SEALED copy of the "Modern Girls" soundtrack on eBay for like $5! Plus, with "But Not Tonight" being the first track, it's on the outer edge of the vinyl which has better sound quality - the quality diminishes the further toward the label the needle travels.

I do keep a casual eye on requests in case I have something someone is looking for ;-)
