Billy Idol - Gen X Question/REQ

Postby Sundayguy » Sun Jun 23, 2013 3:10 pm

Years ago on the local college radio "New Wave" show one long-running staple was a version of Dancing With Myself by (at the time) Gen X.
This version the DJ called the "extended mix" and was approx 7:30 long.
Once Billy Idol became a popular solo artist there were at least a couple 12"
singles available, and each had a Dancing With Myself (Extended) that topped out at only about 5:30 or so. In the longer version there was quite an extended spot in the middle, with just drums, bass, and the uh-oh-oh vocals.
Anyone else know of/remember/HAVE this longer version?
Would love to add this to the collection, if anyone can please post. THANKS!

Yeah Neil, seems I frequently ask for the weirdest hardest to find really obscure stuff. But then I offer up some nice oddities too, from time to time. [;)]

Yup, your spot on, I remember having this off of vinyl. Not anymore. Was recorded as Generation X as I remember.

HA!!! Thanks for that, elviscaprice.
I KNEW there was a longer version, now it'd just be a matter of finding it.

Everyone I talked to about this said I was crazy, and that the longest
version of Dancing With Myself was only over 5 minutes long.

Glad someone else remembers this lost longer version, too bad it hasn't yet turned up anywhere. Maybe someday

I remember talking to the radio station DJ of the new wave show, and he said he put the LONG LONG version on, to visit the restroom, or go have a smoke.
He could only "sneak away" if a really LONG track was on, and that was his "go-to" song for a break

Humm, swore it was under the Generation X name, but couldn't find it. Here is the 6.05 version under Billy Idol.

Hey Neil,
I may just do that. And elviscaprice, thanks for looking that one single up, tho I'm sure that's not it. It was announced on the radio at the time as Generation X.
Maybe I can "fake up" my own extended version, just for fun, if the actual
doesn't turn up. [:D]
