I don't think I've shared these yet, and if I did, it wasn't in FLAC...

A few years ago I re-created the U.S. 7" single and 7" dub edits of Yazoo's 1982 classic "Situation", since they've never been officially released on CD. I used the audio from the "The Best Of Yaz" 1999 CD (for the U.S. 7" Edit) and "Situation (Remixes)" 1999 CD-Single (for the U.S. 7" Dub Version) to re-create these edits...

01 Situation (U.S. 7" Edit) [3:44]

02 Situation (U.S. 7" Dub Version) [3:10]

Last night, realizing that the 1990 UK 7" remix ("Deadline Mix Edit") by Francois Kevorkian is extremely hard to find on CD, I re-created that as well. There was a second edit on the UK promo CD, but I have not been able to find an audio source of that version to re-create it.

I feel the original "Deadline Mix Edit" is actually kind of a sloppily assembled mix, but my re-creation here is faithful to the original nonetheless. But then I decided to make my own refined version of it that felt a little less choppy and rushed, with smoother transitions. The only "mixing" I did was to use a short segment from the 1990 "Space Mix" (also remixed by Francois Kevorkian) and add it into the "Deadline Mix" audio towards the end for a more natural transition. Everything else is just elements of the "Deadline Mix" from the "Situation (Remixes)" 1999 CD-Single, edited here and there. It turned out so well I thought I would share it here. Hope you enjoy these tracks...

It never even dawned on me to take the audio from the DVD! Thanks for the reminder. I'm glad you enjoyed the tracks...

Fred, thank you for taking the time to re-create these rare edits and for sharing them in high quality!

FYI: The U.S. 7" edit of "Situation" is available on "Just Say Sire: The Sire Records Story" box set from 2005.

Thanks for this. Absolutely incredibly (even more so that i didn't think of this when i first read it and only when i came back here 2 mins later as not too much else to read) i was playing Yazoo's Situation as i was reading this. Just downloaded it recently from BTG who has put his magic to the 2 track 1982 U.S. 12" for those interested

I was not aware of that box set, thank you for the info! I checked on it at discogs.com and there is also a version of "Oh L'Amour" by Erasure on the same set, but the time given is 3:36 which is longer than than the UK [3:04] and USA [3:25] album versions and the single version [3:12]. Can you shed some light on what version THIS is? The only version I know of close to that length is the USA 7" Promo of the Funky Sisters Remix Edit [3:35] (which happens to be another rare 7" edit I recently re-created lol).

That's funny because I regularly visit Paul's BTG blog, and after I finished the edits, was surprised to see "Situation" as that day's post as well hehehe. The stars were aligned....

I answered my own question regarding the mix of "Oh L'Amour" on the "Just Say Sire" Box Set. I found an mp3 of it and can confirm it IS in fact the U.S. 7" Promo Funky Sisters Remix edit.
