For your listening pleasure, another Rubellan Remaster. By request, here is the 1985 LP by The Thought, containing their classic cover of 'Eight Miles High'. This is the whole 10 track LP. If anyone has their 1986 singles 'Shine' and 'Alex' and would like to part with them (they both have non-LP B sides), I can start remastering their 1986 LP The Dream Is Me:

Here's the full remastered Rock America video, complimentary remastered sound via Rubellan. Not even on Youtube. Funny, first time I have ever seen an album cover photo taken from the promo video.
I think the single (promo video) was released before the album.

Thanks for sharing the video. I have it copied directly off the air in SP mode on VHS tape from the MTV2 A-Z marathon, though I could tell they cut something from the beginning. They only aired it from when the guy drops the sugarcube. Plus, I don't recall seeing the final scene of the kid impacting on the ground, and suspect that was edited out for MTV because it may have been viewed as too violent. I've loved this video since I first saw it back in 2000. It's got a very creepy, gothic feel to it.

It's funny that you're creating new soundtracks to your videos. When I was in touch with VH1 Classic about 10 years ago and having them air all those New Wave videos, I would record them to my computer as they aired and would create new soundtracks for them at the time. I have about 15 full DVD's of videos recorded in this manner. Glad I did it because a bunch of that stuff will never air again. I used to sell comps of videos from MTV2 and VH1 Classic (and Telegenics and Rockamerica) on eBay all those years ago (during my lean college years), and have seen many of my recording show up on YouTube. Glad they are still in circulation somewhere.

UPDATE: So I was about to go to bed but I was thinking about the difference in the MTV version of the video, so I dug my old MTV2 tape out of a box in storage. I was correct, the impact you see at the end of the Rockamerica video is about a microsecond long on the MTV video, then transitions to the kid gettting up and spitting out dirt in slow motion (which is not in the RA version) before it fades to the guy looking like he has a headache. I can go to sleep now...

Scott, glad to hear you are also a video collector. It's interesting to note the edited for public viewing VH1/MTV videos as to the European full nudity/violence releases. That's what I liked about Rock America, they always released the full unedited versions along with the edited versions. I don't have very many VH1/MTV videos in my 3 TB unique (meaning one copy, best of a particular unique video) video collection anymore (most replaced with non logo material), of which about 1.5 TB are unique 80's underground material. But there are exceptions, as you know there we're quite a few uniquely made videos for VH1/MTV that never appeared anywhere else.

Unfortunately for this Rock America video, it was already compressed, so there was a limited amount of processing I could accomplish with the video. My best work, is with my personal lossless captures in LD & VHS. Although some compressed DVD materials will take very well to a little bit of processing. And of course the newer subscription services in the past 10 years have some great remastered material, with the now defunct MixMash as one of the best. They are the measure in excellence for remastered music promo videos. Although I think they could have used a bit more processing in some of their material, often times they we're a bit too grainy in final output. I like my videos more processed. Really a personal preference taste. But their sound was usually quite good.

Thanks for jarring my attention to this band, The Thought. Embarrassingly, even though I was an active 80's waver in the day, I did not give this video a thought, no pun intended, and had relegated this video to my new wave B section. Meaning I didn't find it interesting enough to place in my active folder. But thanks to your thread with remastered audio I reinvestigated this video and wahlah it now is on my favorites list. Got to love it when an old 80's wave tune grabs your loving attention again or even for the fist time. Keep up the good work!

I hadn't heard of The Thought, but I dig their cover of 8 Miles High. Back in the day I was really into the 80s post-hardcore indie bands. Anyone hear remember Husker Du's cover? They ripped the s*** out of it.

I don't suppose you could make this available again? I used to listen to this album quite a lot and it's one of the few albums I want on CD but a good vinyl rip will suffice. The Rise And The Fall was always my favorite track.

A good vinyl rip is an understatement when it comes to Scott's vinyl rip/remaster. I live for his kind of work, a special gift at that, a work of love. I would give you his remaster, which I am listening to right now, fantastic, but it is his to give.
