Share: Kraftwerk "Numbers" & "Pocket Calculator" 7" Edits

Postby Fred Taghon » Thu Sep 10, 2015 11:22 am

Apologies for taking so long to upload my re-creations of the 7" edits for "Numbers" and "Pocket Calculator". I was finally able to track down what I ASSUME is a legitimate FLAC rip of the West Germany manufactured "target" version of the USA "Computer World" CD, but I could hear absolutely no sonic difference between that and the Elektra CD that I own. So the following edits were re-created using the USA Elektra/Asylum Records release of the "Computer World" CD. The low end is definitely lacking on that CD however, so I did beef up each track a bit with some additional bass.

"Numbers":
The USA 7" edit cuts out the intro and fades before "Computer World..2" kicks in. The UK 7" has a few edits throughout the track and also includes 36 seconds of "Computer World..2" before fading out. The pitch of the UK 7" edit is significantly faster than the album version and USA 7" edit. I assume some record companies chose to speed up some of Kraftwerk's 7" versions hoping the shorter playing times might entice more radio play?

Numbers (USA 7" Edit) 2:56 (AIFF):

"Pocket Calculator"
The UK 7" edit of "Pocket Calculator" is just an early fade of the album version. The USA 7" edit however, has several edits throughout the track and is also increased in pitch, making it faster than the original album version and UK 7" edit.

BTW: Last week while listening to "Numbers" for probably the 10 billionth time in my life (lol), I realized it would be a good candidate for one of my home-made "remix" projects. As I did with Depeche Mode's "New Life" and The Human League's "Don't You Want Me" and "Love Action" a few years back, I like to make extended mixes for songs that never had them using only audio from the original track - using cut-and-paste editing and digital effect plugins. It's sounding REALLY cool so far! I will share the finished project here when it's completed.
