Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.

....this is the msg i receive when i try to play an mp3, and theres no sound device under the device manager. spyware or a virus may have wiped it out. please tell me how to fix this.

Not sure this is the same problem, but once I had "lost" a file called [b]soundvol32.exe.[/b] The net result of this file being missing is that I couldn't play any sound files. Do a search of your hard drive to see if it is there, if not, d/l it. That should solve it.

if what Eight6 says isn't it...

if you have a sound card go to control panel, Add new hardware and see if the wizard sees it. If so, go get the drivers for it and just reinstall the card...if not, If that doesn't work, get the drivers for the card and select 'Have Disk'...or, if not...try physically removing it and putting it in another slot, then see if the OS sees it.

if it's onboard sound (no card), go to whoever makes your machine's website and look for onboard sound card drivers...

email me with your Operating System (Win 95, 98 etc) and who makes your machine and I'll see what I can do...
