Not necessarily New wave, but I'd LOVE to find a copy of her earliest single (as a solo act) called "I Wanna Be Where the Boys Are" . Stephen Rabow played it on KYYX & KHIT and I have an old scratchy cassette copy that I can barely hear anymore. Has anyone heard of this, and would be willing to share ? Thanks in advance![:)]

In 1984, Jody issued a single of "Girls Night Out" b/w "My House" (which was later covered by Paul Lekakis in a fit of rainbow signings at Sire - Michael Davidson, etc) I used to have it vinyl years ago, let me see if I can track down a copy of it.

in 1984, Book of Love released "Boy", which contained the immortal "I wanna be where the boys are line" I think you're speaking of......

otherwise, the official US single was "Looking For A New Love" in early 1987.

I have heard of this song--though I've never heard it. I was also aware that she did a song with the Art of Noise, and I can't find that anywhere, either.

I'm guessing your best bet is to try GEMM or eBay, and rip the vinyl yourself.

I have an old Jody Watley vinyl comp somewhere - it featured her stuff with Shalamar and some early solo things. I will dig it out & see if it's on there. Give me a couple of days.

I think New Wavers in America always considered the artists on (the original) Band Aid "hip," but in fact, in the UK they were merely chart-topping pop stars! Same with the subsequent Band Aids.

Thanks! I love that Divine track too! I'll get those Monsoon songs off sometime soon.

I remember watching the original Band Aid thinking it was Sade, then I realized it was Jody Watley. I wondered why the girl from Shalamar was singing on it. Who knew she would become so huge a couple years later.
