Opins? Private Forum for Postings?

There's been considerable background discussion here and on the Hub about the recent rash of YouSendIt postings. It seems a lot of people are concerned that it could expose the NWO to unwanted scrutiny. A more practical consideration for me is that I can't filter all that noise anyway. And admittedly MikeP didn't seem so concerned at first, but I'm still not so sure.
What do people think now?
It was suggested earlier that a private registered-only forum would be cool for the veterans. I hated that idea, but one more for the purposes of keeping this kinda stuff more private might not be bad. It would also be a good place to discuss things like the Hub - many hubs will kick you for even mentioning it in a public forum, and I really don't like all that info out there for everyone to see. Well??

How about going back to the song postings original purpose: helping out a fellow board member ( or 2 ) with a song they are in search of. The Yousendit thing has morphed into a posting competition for those who have, and a scavenger hunt for those who have not. No need for a separate forum, just a big need for some common sense.

You're both correct, Blir & Eight6: common sense must prevail. However, without assuming people will exercise discretion, I like the idea of having a private registered-only area.

While the majority of the stuff posted is pretty rare and out-of-print and is unlikely to drawing any <I>official[/i] scrutiny, there are plenty of readily available songs being posted too. Folks forget that these posts don't really ever go away. The links may expire, but the posts are still out there.
I'd definitely be in favor of a private forum for this kind of thing. I'd hate to see the NWO go the way of torchomatic. [V]

A few months ago, when posting of lots of "common" songs had increased, MikeP stated his concerns. Then, for a short while, it slowed way down. Imo, it has gotten to the point where it is much worse than before. Don't get me wrong, this is a great place to find songs you had either forgotten, remixes, or songs you have never heard. But, maybe Blir is right. A private forum might be better. Nobody here wants this site to got the way of Torchomatic. And, no one wants MikeP or anyone else to get into any kind of trouble. MikeP, what do you think?

I`m one of those who have been doing alot of yousendit for the soul purpose of music sharing. I don`t want to cause any problems with the NWO. I won`t send anymore music unless someone is looking for a song that I may have. I don`t want to be part of the problem. Thanks for posting your concern. Kind Regards

The thing that hung Simon in the end was the lack of specificity to his song posts in that they were rarely directed to an individual. As a result, Torchomatic too closely resembled a p2p site.
In the context of one forum member sending a song to a member or a select few who have requested it, I think NWO would be safe as it stands now. The latest rash of "me too" Yousendit posts are not in response to a request, rather, they are just a giveaway.

Though I am new here, over the last few months I see a more open sharing format lately- which includes stuff that is not hard to find and is available on either CD or from a site like iTunes, MSN Music, etc. If the mission here is to share obscure, rare, out of print music, we have extended past that ideal. Though I am all for sharing OOP songs or rare stuff, we all should remember that "they" (the Man!) come down on people eventually for making songs available that can be purchased still. I think it is a matter of self governing, and remembering the purpose of the site. [B)]
Just one person's opinion.

In other words...common sense. See Blir, there is hope.[:D]
BTW, maybe a forum name change is in order too. It seems to condone the behavior.

I guess I'm done posting too. I just hope I get accepted into the [h--] soon. I sent an email to [the guy in charge] weeks ago. [:(]

I know NWO quite a while but never bothered much about its forum until I found out that some rare stuff I'd been searching for for ages was posted there. Since then I've made it a habit to drop in once a day. I also posted via yousendit, mostly as a `thank you´ to others that helped with a song. I keep it down to one or two songs, tough.
The download lists that some people posted contain lots of nice tracks, but I already mentioned in a different thread that the amount of downloads could attract unwanted guests. To be honest, the news about the downloads on this side seems to spread like a wildfire.
I'd prefer
1)not to have a closed area for insiders (as I fear that would exclude me as a newbee),
2)people should limit their requests to rare stuff, unavailable on CD or bands hardly ever heard of. The rest is easily available on iTunes and the like.
I reactivated the discussion about the h** because I wanted to know what it is[:I]. As I still think about knocking on its door, I surely didn't plan to expose it to unwanted attention. The thread had already been there, anyway.
3)I promise not to mention the h** again.
4)In remembrance of the past traffic, here's `Tainted Love´ for you...
only kidding![:D]
