While I am a huge Devo fan, this material sounds pretty amateurish. I found the song that plays when you go to the website to be uninspired and mundane. Fake political commentary; and nothing I hate more than ludicrous name-dropping of pop culture references of the moment - songs like these are usually quickly forgotten.

And that awful name has got to go. It's not being "edgy."

Ditto, rewind. It sounds and looks like ca ca. Mark Mothersbaugh had the right idea about leaving well enough alone. Too bad Gerald Casale doesn't have the same good sense. I hope this doesn't damage Devo's legacy too much.

Hugo Largo
C.S.Angels
Colourfield
Falco
Colourbox Radio
Anything after "Speak and Spell" Depeche Mode

And a few others. Plus there are only a few females in music I can listen to:

Anne Lennox
Chrissy Hynde
Marrisa (Trees)
Kate Bush
to name a few. We all have different tastes.

While I'm thinking of it.....I never "listen" to what the singer or composer has to say. It's their opinion and quite frankly, most singers have nothing interesting to say. If I want to hear about todays current events I watch the news. When I listen to music I treat the singer as another instrument...just like a guitar or synth.

Take Michael Stipe for instance...what the hell is he saying half the time? I don't know and I really don't care...do I like REM? Yes. Do I care what Mr. Stipe is rambling about? No but ain't the music great? I have a bunch of French and Japanese music on my station and I don't speak French or Japanese but ain't the music great?

Didn't John Lennon have something to say about what lyrics mean? I'm not sure of the exact quote but I do believe it was something like:

"I write the lyrics for myself...if you get some meaning out of it then that's just fine...and if you don't, well, that's just fine too."

Hey Max, don't take it personal. You like what you like. I like music that others consider pure drek. My chief complaint was not the quality of G. Casales new stuff, but how poorly it measures up to his past output. If we're grading on a curve, his new stuff is better than 80% of new music. But that's not saying much. Maybe I should be glad that he's still making new music, regardless of how it measures up to his older stuff.

I should have used some of those "smilies" off to the left...come to think of it maybe not....I hate those "smilies".

I saw Devo last fall in Cleveland and they just about ripped the roof off! I hadn't seen a concert that good since Kraftwerk back in 82 and I have seen a bunch since then. Those old guys (like I have room to talk) may have put on some weight but they sure as hell kept up with the drummer (forgive me but his name has slipped my mind).

What ever happened to Alan Meyers? Nevermind...I just found out that he lives in California and is working as an electrician...anyway, anything from Devo (except that Devo 2.0 thingy) is always welcome.

Ok Devo fans...what was with the 45 that came with the "Be Stiff" album that was credited to "Mechanical Man"? Just a Devo joke or was there some kind of legal thing going on with labels?

David Kendrick (formerly of Sparks) has been the on-again/off-again drummer for Devo since Alan left the group in the mid 80's (he left because he was burned out/and or/ready for something else. He's currently a electrician.) I agree that in concert Devo still rocks. Check out their Live in the Land of the Rising Sun dvd. Good shit.
