Knowing VH1-C, they will probably rerun the 1st hour 24 times. I can't see them actually doing the full 24 hours. Some of the videos in those hours are now considered "restricted" so I'd be surprised if they played them anyway.

What does "restricted" exactly mean to them? Why would they not be allowed to play certian videos? Oh well, Youtube can take up the slack. :)

"Restricted" is the lame term the music video programmer told me that several thousand, yes thousand, old videos in the MTV archive are tagged with. This means they are supposedly not allowed to air the videos, which is why lots of stuff people remember from the heyday of MTV was not ran during the MTV2 A-Z marathon. They claimed they could possibly get in trouble if they air those videos, which is bull because I managed to get them to air restricted videos by The Flirts, Pretenders, Haircut 100, Kraftwerk, etc, but they would never touch some of the main ones I wanted. It was a bunch of hypocrisy because they would air the restricted videos that they like.

I know that the Fingerprintz video for "Shadowed" is restricted, and was aired within the first hours of MTV programming. If that plays in this little marathon then it would be a good sign them may stick to the authentic playlist, but I really can't see them doing it. But then if they do I'll kick myself for not getting cable back in time to record it!

But who would they get in trouble with? The big bad RIAA? The record label that owns the video? I think "restricted" is rather odd since MTV/VH1 is essentially giving them free advertising to buy a compilation cd/whatever of said "restricted" video.

That's alright. We have youTube, that has no such restrictions. :)

Also , did you notice the old School MTV video info (title, artist). underneath the VH1 classic tile info on "Take It On The Run (live)"? Guess they didn't have a clean copy of that one.

And from the vinyl only files...PHD-Little Suzi's On The Up.

Personally, I'd rather see the actual first day footage as it aired (or at least the first hour) than just the videos.

Never got to see the early days, as we didn't "get our MTV" until
'84 or so when it became free on our cable system.(Used to be scrambled and cost extra). There was always "Friday Night Videos" and HBO's "Video Jukebox" though....

Random thoughts on today's "MTV Day One" on VH1 classic:

When did "Blotto-I Wanna Be A Lifeguard" become "Hilly Michaels-Calling All Girls", and did they/will they actually show Hilly Michaels (haven't seen that one since HBO's "Video Jukebox", circa '81).

The Good: Selecter! Pretenders! Split Enz! Buggles "Age Of Plastic"!

The Bad: REO, Styx, Rod Stewart ad infinitum (Well, it was 1981). And .38 Special "Hold On Loosely" got almost as many plays as that annoying Old Navy "Get Your Fash-On" ad.

The Ugly: That PHD guy.
