Hello all, this is my first post here at New Wave Outpost and I figured I'd share as well as ask for some help all at once. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
I'm trying to ID 5 songs that I encoded from cassette tape which I used to record radio broadcasts from Live 105.3 KITS (San Francisco) in the late 80s. I'll include brief descriptions here for those that don't feel like downloading the whole tracks.
http://66.121.9.138/Abu_Dhabi-Sheikh_Ahmed_El_Jefah.mp3 - This song is sung mostly in some (I'd guess) Middle Eastern language, with an occasional sample of a woman saying "You can't be serious". The music is mostly synth-based with a Middle Eastern flavor to it. On my tape I have a bit of the DJ at the end of the song saying "It's the sounds of Abu Dhabi with Sheikh Ahmed El Jefah", and that's pretty much all I have to go by.
http://66.121.9.138/Unknown-Middle_Eastern_Song.mp3 - Another song sung in some Middle Eastern language (I guess I have a thing for Middle Eastern songs?). Again the music is synth-based and Middle Eastern flavored. I have even less to go on with this one than the previous track...
http://66.121.9.138/Unknown-Burning_Sky.mp3 - This song is ska/reggae. It's chorus goes "Just because you are winning, it does not mean that you are right. And just because you are grinning now, it don't mean the end of the fight." The only thing that I can find about this one is that a San Francisco area band called The Uptones has a version of this song, but I don't know who does this one and which is the original and which is the cover, if they both covered another band, or if this is the same band and just a different version of the same song.
http://66.121.9.138/Unknown-Defcon.mp3 - This song is synth/industrial sounding and has no lyrics that are actually sung, just various samples used throughout. A bunch of the samples are taken from the movie Wargames, and the music sounds similar to Micro Chip League. And I know it's not the Pop Will Eat Itself track "Def Con One", though it's pretty similar.
http://66.121.9.138/Unknown-Surely_You_ ... erious.mp3 - Another synth-based-no-lyrics-sample-filled song, this song is a musical tribute to the movie Airplane. All the samples come from Airplane which are repeated over a very new wave-ish beat, with a few cool and random guitar solos thrown in for the heck of it.
Well, there they are. Any and all info on these songs (which have remained nameless to me for more than 15 years) will be more than what I have now. Thanks all in advance for any help!
P.S. Let me know if the links don't work and I can fix them, as they are hosted on my own machine.
