Please help me ID this obscure song - it was all synth, almost High Energy, like the New Order/Soft Cell/Q-feel sound at the time, with the words " I listen to the radio .... Stereo." Haven't heard it since then, but somehow never forgot it.
Any help would be great - no doubt a Dj from that time might know Thanks

...although your Hi-NRG description is kinda throwing me. MikeP also has a Pukka Orchestra song called "Listen to the Radio" listed in his obscure songs list that I'm not familiar with.

I can email you Members' "Working Girl" mp3 so you can hear if it's the same band. I don't have "Radio"

Thanks guys - I don't think it was the Members, but even the 'Rats did Skin on Skin which sounded very synth even for them. I'll look up the other band too. Come to think of it, it had to have been released on 12" single as I remember Jed the Fish playing a dub version of the song in '84.

More than likely, it's The Members - produced by Martin Rushent -released in 1982, also on a 12" version by Genetic Records, catalogue # 12WIP6773, distributed in the UK by Island Records. (according to the copy in my hand) [:D]

The EP featured a dub version on the B side and also had (If You) Can't Stand Up as a second cut on the A side. Killer horn section, too.

It's kind of like the same horn-section sound in Haircut 100's Favourite Shirt/Boy Meets Girl or Spandau Ballet's Chant No. 1

It also got some airplay on CFNY in Toronto back then.

The song "Atmospherics: Listen To The Radio" was originally a Tom Robinson song that appeared on his 1984 album War Baby: Hope and Glory. Is there any way to get a copy of that song.

I was involved with a start-up radio station ( which is still going!!) and that was the first song we played on air...

We are planning a re-union, and i would love to have the track to play just after the first speaker..

I believe the version KROQ played was Radio Dub.

For anyone reading this thread in the future, I just noticed today that The Members' official website has "offshore" mp3s posted for three of their songs, including "Working Girl" (but not "Radio").
