"Just let me out by the red light"
The subject line is the first line of the song, if I'm remembering it correctly. I used to hear it on college radio in the mid to late 80s. Google doesn't find the lyrics. It was fairly mellow sounding, maybe slightly like early REM. Here is what I can remember of it (may have some of it wrong):
Just let me out by the red light
I want to walk a block or two
I don't need any reason
I don't need anything from you (?)
chorus:
So don't build me a bridge
I'll replace it with a wall
Cold as a fridge
Don't hold your breath waiting for a call (?)
Oh-oh don't find me
Don't bother looking 'cause I won't be there
Just let me out by the red light
I want to walk a block or two
I don't need any reason
I don't need anything from you (?)
chorus:
So don't build me a bridge
I'll replace it with a wall
Cold as a fridge
Don't hold your breath waiting for a call (?)
Oh-oh don't find me
Don't bother looking 'cause I won't be there
